A Little Girl's Story -
October 21st 2011, 02:56 AM
Her alien alarm wakes her up in the morning. She pulls the covers over her head and ignores it like she is asleep. This continues for about five to ten minutes, then her step mother comes into the room yelling at her to wake up and turns off the alarm. The girl is awake but she pretends to be asleep; she focuses on hiding her face just in case her eyes move underneath her lids. The step-mother isn't stupid, she can tell that the little girl is awake and this makes her angry. She is sick of dealing with this every single weekday morning.
Finally the girl gets up, listening to the woman rant in annoyance. She walks to the bathroom and goes through the daily routine that is written on a piece of paper taped to the mirror, so she won't forget anything. This doesnt always work, she sees it there yet most days she doesnt feel like doing things like flossing her teeth. She eats her Honey Nut Cherrios in silence. She is completely ready, and usually waits a little while for her step-mother to come out of the room with her cloths on which shows she is ready. When she finally does come out, she asks the girl if she has done everything she was supposed to do. "Yes." "Really? You did? Let's go see" They walk up the stairs to the bathroom and the mother looks in the trash can. She doesn't see any recently used floss or q-tips. "Stop lying to me!!!" "I'm sorry!" The mother gets out the floss and two q-tips and slams them down on the counter. The daughter moves to do what she is told while her step-mother walks with heavy footsteps down the hallway still talking about it all. While in the car, the girl sits in a huddled silence, waiting for the lecture to be over once she gets to school. They sit in the car for another 5 minutes, the mother still talking in angry bursts. The bell has already rung and she is late. "Ugh, finally..." she thinkings, when she is allowed to get out of the car and walk in the front door of her elementary school. The day is over and she waits for almost an hour to be picked up by her step-mother. Silence is the only thing that occupies the space between them. They pull in the garage and they both go their separate ways. The mother to the living room or kitchen to get dinner started, and the daughter to her room, where she closes the door so she is completely alone. She puts off starting her homework and plays with something or reads a book. After a little while, she goes into the other room where her desk is and starts working on math or a book report that is due the next day. She constantly listens for the deep thuds of her step-mother's feet in the hallway. She tip toes around her room, not wanting to upset the witch. She hears the garage door open and knows that her father is home. The father who loves her and protects her and comforts her in his big teddy bear hugs and booming voice. The only parent that this child will ever truly love and respect in her whole lifetime. Her whole night becomes better when she hears that door open and him saying "Helllloooo" in a happy yet fairly tired voice. Dinner time comes around and the girl's plate is set on the kitchen counter and her parents retire to the living room to watch tv and eat. She eats alone listening to the sounds of the tv wishing she could watch with them. Sometimes she is allowed to, but these are rare occasions because she becomes a zombie when watching tv, and forgets about her food. Not that she wants to eat it anyways... After dinner she gets ready for bed and then walks into her room, she gets everything ready and the second she turns off the light she runs to her bed and hops in in fear. The child is afraid of the dark. Not necessarily of the traditional kid eating monsters in the closet and under the bed. This fear is of something more demon like, ghost like. She can't explain what it is and she never talks about it. She is afraid of something that will come up and suck the life out of her. She sleeps in the very middle of the bed away from any edges where these creatures could reach up and pull her into their deep hell. She lays awake for hours waiting for her end to come... |
