My Opinion of School... -
January 5th 2012, 12:12 AM
We're the most intelligent creatures
Yet we waste all our time In this stupid hell hole That teaches all but survival Things we don't need to know Everything we know we will forget So tell me why If we are so smart Why do we sit here trying to learn the unnecessary Why do we spend our entire youth In a fucked up school When all other species Learn all that they need from life And somehow now you're everybody's fool. ~Evanescence

That was great, you must have put a lot of thought into it. That's one of the most true things i've heard in months. I feel the exact same way, you're very good at this.

I've never grasped 100% why people feel the need to be so against school. Admittedly, it you may feel that things can be pointless to you (chemistry LOL) but what's the point of hating an education that's actually vital for your survival.
Nicely written poem, I just disagree with the message. Hey, guess why i smile a lot... because it's worth it

I'm not against school perse I'm just disagree with where they choose to place focus. All the emphasis on standardized tests is a waste of time they could use to teach us things we can apply in the real world. Most of my degree was writing research papers, okay, great I can write a research paper, and calculate stats by hand but I don't ever plan to do either. I want to go into counseling!

Thank you so much for all the comments. And as for why I hate school lately (I didn't used to), Katie's comment pretty much explains it.

Although I don't have the same feelings about school, I do admire your writing. The poem is cool.
I actually love learning, and a good part of my learning happens at school. So, that part of school I like. I know there's a lot of stuff I may never use, but at my age I can't guarantee that. I also have typical teenage hassles with the politics and social bullshit of school (the hierarchy, the cliques, the conforming) but I try to learn from that too. I've actually started to view my time on TH as a learning opportunity. There are so many people that are going through stuff, experiencing stuff, asking about stuff that I have no clue about. It's a goldmine for learning about life and people. What's especially cool for me is getting a female point of view on so much stuff. My pops said, and I quote, "Go to school tomorrow, look around and imagine all you little snot nosed brats running around uneducated and trying to fend for yourselves." In my little corner of the planet...that is one scary thought. 15 Straight - Loving Life - Love meeting new peeps - Want to help if I can ![]() Girl: "My doctor says I can't have sex for a while." Nice poem!
I agree to a point. I think we should be able to study what we want. What's the point in being forced to take something you hate, do horribly at, and don't plan on using? *cough math cough* Also I think learning should be more hands on. Less focus on being right and more on exploring a topic. Less competition, more cooperation.
Sometimes tears say all there is to say. Sometimes your first scars don't ever fade away. Tried to break my heart, well it's broke. Tried to hang me high, well I'm choked. Wanted rain on me, well I'm soaked. Soaked to the skin. It's the end where I begin.

"*cough math cough*" FUNNY!My school is very "non-traditional." Nearly every class has a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. We rarely have individual projects. Many of our classes are team taught, especially those that are "interdisciplinary." We might have a whole semester where, for instance, Western Cultures and Modern Literature are team taught together. We often take tests that are group projects, and we are often allowed to retake tests. We spend a lot of time in "labs". Very hands on, very collaborative. 15 Straight - Loving Life - Love meeting new peeps - Want to help if I can ![]() Girl: "My doctor says I can't have sex for a while." I agree to a point, like with what everyone else is saying. It isn't school so much as where the school systems want us to focus. I'm still trying to figure out where knowing electricity or energt is going to help me be a doctor. But, I like this.
