This is not a poem or a story, but I consider it a product of self-expression... - January 26th 2012, 12:46 AM

Why I suck and should die: An analysis

There are all sorts of humans in this world; some are kind and compassionate, others are cold and cruel, some maintain a total indifference to everything and yet another lot like to involve themselves in all kinds of matters when unasked for.

The last century saw some important changes to the principals of values, and especially to the values of humans. As democracy and egalitarianism grew increasingly popular in the Western world, the concept of equality spread like a tidal wave, sweeping through lands and indoctrinated entire societies. No country in the West was spared the merciless proliferation that today permeates it. Indeed, the "equality of all humans" is the most fundamental principle, the quintessence that defines the cultural heritage of Ancient Greece. Everyone, no matter who, is entitled to the same rights. It does not matter your heritage, gender, belief, sexuality, character, deeds - or misdeeds. This is particularly salient in Central- and Northern Europe, where countries are under social-democratic governance, with a system - carried out through heavy taxation - where those who are better off help those who have it worse. Equality is closest to being achieved in the Scandinavian countries, commonly referred to as "welfare states" and their system as "the Nordic model". Much of it because people have themselves chosen their path, in contrast to pseudo-socialist states such as North Korea, which features a government-enforced social model.

The Nordic states are noted for their comprehensive system of social security, with a strong safety net, substantial welfare benefits, universal healthcare and schooling, and above all, equality between every individual. Equality is the cornerstone in Scandinavian society. It is thus surprising that the one and only exception to the cornerstone that holds together the Western civilization is situated in egalitarian Sweden, land of equality. But why?

There is no why. The reason why I am inferior to not only every individual on this planet where equality flourishes, but even to a particle of dust in distant Sahara, is because I am too unworthy, too insignificant to have a reason as to why I am just that. Vacuum in space does not need an explanation why it is as it is, and neither does the cause of my worthlessness, whose importance is on the same level as vacuum in space. Not even that, in fact.

I do not in any way lessen the prestige of Sweden as a welfare state; I am too negligible to be used as a reference of criticism.

Nothing I do is worth a damn. My presence is dispensable, my mere existence - or lack thereof - is unnecessary. I am not undesired; I am not worth being undesired. In fact I should not even be mentioned, why waste two paragraphs discussing about particles of dust or something of equivalent status?

Am I then better off dead? Well, is a particle of dust better off gone? Because I do not see much of a difference.

P.S. It is NOT my opinion that the European social model is by any means superior to the U.S. capitalist system.

I seek the answer.

This is very well-written. I'm sorry you feel this way, though! You definitely deserve to be here with us.

Keep writing! You articulate yourself very well.
