Five periods a year that come regularly - May 6th 2012, 04:21 AM

I got my period in September of 2010 when I was 13. I only get about five periods a year though. I know it's not really regular for the first couple years, but mine is, just five times a year.

September and December of 2010
March, May, July, September, and December of 2011
March and may in 2012

Is that weird? I do not want a period every moth. I am greatly appreciative my body decided, "Oh, screw that every month thing," so I only get five periods a year.

You're 14, so it seems natural that it wouldn't be regular. I would talk to your doctor if you continue not getting it monthly, however, I wouldn't worry about it, and just celebrate the time before it's regular.

But they're not really irregular. They come at a certain time in certain months. I just do not get them every month.

Does a period have to come every month to be regular? Mine comes about two and a half months apart. The dates I had my cycle correspond, like I got a period in September and December in 2010 and in September and December of 2011, etc.

It would be regular if there was the same amount of time between each period, not just that they fell in the same months. Your periods are three months apart and then two, which means they're not regular. It's nothing to worry about though, it's ok for them to be all over the place for the first year or so!!

You've only been menstruating for a year, and it can sometimes take several years for your cycle to regulate. Even though your periods seem regular, they still aren't occurring with the same amount of time between them, rendering them irregular.

I wouldn't worry about it; it will even itself out in time. And look on the bright side: so far you at least know what month they are coming in, even if they aren't regular.
