Oral Sex - July 11th 2012, 07:49 PM

The other day me and my boyfriend had oral sex for the first time.
I was just wondering, am i still a virgin if i did that? Do I actually have to have intercourse, or does any kind of sex make me not a virgin?

It depends on what your definition of virginity is. To me, I didn't lose my virginity until I actually had intercourse for the first time. So, to me, no, you wouldn't be considered a non-virgin if you had oral sex.

As Shannon said, it all comes down to your own personal definition... You kinda make the rules on this one. I'd say the most common opinion though is that you have to have physical intercourse to of lost your virginity.

Like the others said, go by your definition. If you feel that you aren't a virgin, then you aren't. If you feel that you still are a virgin, then you are.

It's totally up to you, as others have said. Although personally, I would still consider you a virgin since you haven't had intercourse.

As everybody else has said, it's up to you. Virginity is a personal thing, since the actual definition of virginity comes down to a very heterosexual and narrow minded idea. Really, it's your own definition, and how you feel about yourself. Just remember: Virgin or not, oral sex can spread STIs, so remember to use protection and/or get tested regularly.

Everyone else has done a fine job of answering...but I'll go ahead and give you another opinion too.
If you think that oral sex counts as losing your virginity, then that's what you go by. A lot of people believe that vaginal intercourse is the definition of virginity. it's your own choice how you define it

Be well!

Re: Oral Sex - July 12th 2012, 01:52 PM

The problem is that the typical understanding of "virginity" tends to be pretty narrow and restricts us only to heterosexual relationships. So to "lose your virginity" in the most straight forward traditional sense, is at least penis to vagina penetration. But that doesn't take into account gay/lesbian relationships. Can neither of them "lose it"? I think that they can.
For me, losing my virginity was when I first had sex, but that was before I started questioning my sexuality. Quite frankly, I think virginity is subjective. Some people only view it in the traditional sense of penis-vagina penetration. But it is perfectly reasonable to consider something that intimate as having lost your virginity.

This may be a little outside of your question, but for me it's not whether you are a virgin or not, it's whether you've had sex or not. So, if you've given your boyfriend a blowjob or even a handjob, you've had sex.

...what? are you saying that handjobs and blowjobs count as sex? it's kind of confusing because of the "it's not whether you're a virgin or not" part. because it is whether you are or not because that's what she's asking. lol.

And, to add on to what the person ahead of me had said, that's your personal opinion. Sex might be more for you, but everyone's definition of virginity is simply different.

It's down to your personal opinion. I wouldn't consider having oral sex as losing your virginity whereas others might, so it's up to you and what you class it as.

Oh God. I've had this debate with myself for many years I've had oral sex but haven't had intercourse so I'm in the same boat.

It depends what you define a "virgin" as. I still call myself a virgin.

Re: Oral Sex - July 15th 2012, 07:40 PM

"Having sex" could be defined as stimulating another person's sexual organs. Virginity has more to do with whether one has engaged in regular intercourse. From my point of view, I am more interested overall if a female has had or engaged in sex than if she is technically a "virgin". I can understand that some girls want to remain virgins until marriage, but I don't get that otherwise their "having sex" doesn't matter. But each to their own situation.
