Unhappy Last minute worries, help! - May 13th 2018, 09:13 PM

I am getting a Brazilian wax this Tuesday and when I got the confirmation email it said someone by the name of "Cory" was going to be my specialist, and I freaked out. It's my first time getting waxed and I would hate to have a man do it anytime, let alone the first time.
I started Googling whether Cory could be a girl's name, and apparently it is a unisex name so that's good.
I'm wondering if I should call the place and ask if they could make sure my specialist is a woman? I realize that's blatant discrimination and I hate to be that person, but due to past sexual assault experiences I fear that my waxing experience would be worse if I had to worry about the fact it is a man ripping hair out of my privates, instead of only worrying about the ripping out hair part. Would it be weird to call and ask that so last minute? Or should I just go with it and deal with it if it is a man?

I do not think there would be anything wrong with calling and letting them know you'd like a female specialist. I know it might feel like discrimination but if you are uncomfortable with a man doing it then there is nothing wrong with specifying. If they have a man scheduled to do it you might have to wait till they can get a female specialist however Cory is a unisex name so it's possible the specialist is already a female. It's probably best to specify so you don't have to worry so much about this.

I see no problem with calling and requesting a female specialist. When I get massages I know they ask if I have a preference for the gender of the massage therapist, so I don't think it's discriminatory. Waxing can easily provoke anxiety the first time around and you should be able to feel comfortable with your specialist, so if you need a female one to feel comfortable there's no reason to fear asking to make that happen.

Odds are this is a woman but I think it be good for you to face your fear. If a guy is doing this line of work I'd hope they would know what there doing and are trust worthy. But in the end your comfort is whats most important.

As with any professional performing an intimate task, you have the right to ensure the person is of a gender that you're comfortable with. Many folks have similar preferences with doctors, massage therapists, etc. They are probably very used to the question and want to make sure you have a good experience!
