Tampon pain. - August 30th 2010, 11:22 AM

Basically, every time I try to use a tampon, I can't get it in, and it hurts a lot. I've tried several times over a year, always with the same outcome. Any tips on using them?

I had trouble for years and then I tried o.b. tampons. I found it easier to direct the tampon that way.

I have trouble with every kind of tampon except Playtex Sport Gentle Glide or whatever they are. Anything else, won't go in :|

I find tampons with plastic applicators are much easier to use than cardboard ones. Also, are you reading the instructions that usually come in the box? Those are pretty helpful and informative, I think.

Wouldn't cardboard hurt?

The first time I used one, it hurt. But the more you use them, the better you get at using them. And then they don't hurt, you don't even feel them! Like said above, plastic applicators are definitely the easiest, and reading the leaflet that comes with them could help you a lot.

If you're thinking about it too much, your body will tense up and it will hurt to put them in. So you need to relax yourself, take deep breaths and get into a comfortable position. Putting your foot up onto the side of the loo or a bath gives you a better angle, and you'll be able to get it in better. Also make sure that you're putting them in properly, the leaflet should help with that.

There shouldn't really be any reason why it would hurt you, if you're doing it right. I think it's just one of those things that takes a bit of practice. But it's well worth it in the end. They are more cleaner, and easier to use. And you'll wonder why you never used them before!

Good luck with it!

I guess I tried the wrong size? There are mini ones? For beginners? OMG. My mother just reached into the sink cabinet and brought one out. Shouldn't she have known there are different sizes?

Yes, I think your mother probably should have known that there are different sizes. But since it's probably been a long time since she used smaller tampons, she might have forgotten. I'm going to assume that your mother gave birth to you naturally? In that case, her vagina would be wider (for lack of a better word) than a 13 year old girl's. So her tampons would most likely be too big for you. You should ask her to get you some smaller ones.

I personally find the smallest kind with plastic applicators are easiest to use. But practice makes perfect (:

Re: Tampon pain. - September 2nd 2010, 08:54 PM

When I first got my period, I used Lites by Tampax Pearl, or whatever. Those are the smallest you can get. Even those hurt. It's going to feel really uncomfortable the first time. It took me like 3-4 minutes to actually get it fully in the first time. You just have to take it slow, and try to suck up the pain. Depending on who you are, I guess it differs. For me, it only hurt the first and second time. It gets easier. but these are the tampons I used, http://www.tampax.com/en-US/where-to...pax-pearl.aspx I believe they are the plastic ones. But I hope I helped. :P

Second chances; They don't matter.

I used Lilets/tampax tampons for 3 years then all of a sudden, I couldn't use them anymore, it was literally too painful!
Just relax and try not to use the er..muscles down there, so your not fighting with yourself to insert it. (oh my that sounded weird!)

I have the same problem. Plastic applicators on the tampons help a lot! So try that.
Or just stick with pads.

Hi
You maybe need to shop around and try a few different brands, absorbencies and sizes to see what suits you best.
I, for instance, have never been able to use Tampax for some reason I just find them uncomfortable.
It'll take you a while to get used to it, so keep practising!

Good luck

If you are a virgin then it can hurt. Only use tampon's on your light days becaues they are normally smaller and use pads on your heavy days. Also you may be able to go to a female doctor and they may be able to do something. also you may have a cotton allergy it can cause the tissue to swell making it sensitive.
