The Pill: Sunday Start vs Day 1 Start? -

My doctor gave me a prescription for the pill a couple weeks ago. I haven't started my period yet, but it should be soon. So I picked up my first (28 day) pack today.
When I talked to my doctor, she mentioned the Sunday Start and what she said lead me to believe it was the first Sunday after you start your period. So if I started my period today, would I start the pill tomorrow? That's what she lead me to believe. But she said that's what people usually do. The pack says "check if you are on a Sunday or Day 1 Start." Then, when I asked the pharmacist. They said it was the Sunday AFTER my period was finished. Meaning if I start today, I'd start the pill the 10th. So now I'm just confused. And I wonder why there are 2 methods. Is it really going to matter down the road which I choose? Or is there really any difference between the two (except being protected almost instantly with Day 1 vs. after about a week with Sunday Start)? What do you guys do? Thanks, loves. |

Never heard or been told of the sunday start before. I just started taking my pill on the day my period started (I think, it was a year ago!). And I appear to be fine with it.

I did the Sunday start. My doctor told me it was the first Sunday after I started my period. They told me if I started ON a Sunday, to take it that day. But if I didn't, then they told me to just take it on the next Sunday that came around. So, for example, if you started today, Saturday, you would take it tomorrow. If you start your period tomorrow (Sunday), you take it tomorrow because it's a Sunday. If you were to start on Monday, you wait until next Sunday to start taking them.
I really don't know if it varies from pill to pill. I'm on Yaz and that's the directions that I was given. :] Good luck

The instructions on mine were to start the day my period started. But in the long run, it won't really matter. Well, I suppose it might impact on when you get your period (like what day of the week), but that's not such a huge issue. If you start your pill on a Sunday, your periods won't start until Monday or Tuesday, so you never have to worry about having your period on the weekend.
Also, you aren't protected instantly with the Day 1 start. Most doctors advise to use additional protection for the first month, regardless of when you start. Dreaming about the day When you wake up and find That what you're looking for Has been here the whole time. |

I have never heard of the Sunday start
 I just did it the day I got my period, which happened to be a Monday..

I did day one start. And everything's fine. So. Yeah.
