Birth Control.. -
May 31st 2011, 08:46 PM
I would like to have it ^^
I live with my dad though. I can't ask him "hey dad can we go to planned parenthood I want birth control" without him flipping out. I'm not sexually active but sometimes sh*t happens when you least expect it. I not only want it for that, but the hormones get rid of acne and lessen your period [or so I hear] Would it be possible for my mom to get me birth control [she is in California] and send it to me in Tennessee? Thanks!(: |

You're only 13, so birth control isn't really something you should be worrying about too much. Your mother cannot get birth control for you and send it to you because YOU need to see a doctor for a consultation. Different types work differently for different people.
If you want to talk to your dad about it, you'll simply need to explain that you're not sexually active, but that you want it to help with your skin and to regulate your period. Mild acne is not a reason to get birth control. If you have moderate-severe acne, you should consider seeing a dermatologist instead. Birth control also does NOT get rid of acne. It helps clear it up some, but it will not totally get rid of it. I will tell you, though, that because you're so young, regulation tends to happen as your body matures on its own, so unless your period is a SERIOUS hinderance do your daily life (such as bad cramps, incredibly heavy bleeding, it lasts longer than it should), I wouldn't use birth control to regulate it because your body will do that naturally unless there's a medical reason it can't (I have PCOS and my periods will probably never be regular on their own). I would say wait a little while. If you're worried about things possibly happening, carry a couple of condoms in your purse. In my opinion, there's little reason why a 13-year-old should be on birth control. “Don't get too comfortable with who you are at any given time. You could try talking to your dad and explaining why you want to go on birth control. He might hear you out but unless you had an actual reason to be on birth control, such as if you were sexually active, he might not agree to take you. If you can get to the clinic on your own you can call up your local clinic to see if they'll give you birth control and set up an appointment for you.
Many women do see an improvement in their acne and their periods, but just as a general warning it doesn't work the same for everyone. |

Hey Becca!
Unfortunately, you would have to consult a doctor in order to get birth control. Your mother isn't the one taking, you are. Birth control works differently for everyone, including it's side effects. It has been known to lessen periods and help with acne, but it might not work for you; you just have to remember that. There are places that you can go without a parental consent, and often give out free birth control; but to do so, you'd have to get examined by a doctor, meaning you'd have to have an annual pap smear every year around the time of year in order to keep getting birth control. Birth control is something you shouldn't be worrying about right now, but it's truly your decision, and try doing some searches for free clinics in your area. Have a friend go with you for moral support. Good luck and take care <3 |

You'll probably have to see a doctor yourself to get birth control. They may decide they want to do an exam... and they'll help you find out what type of birth control would be best for you. You shouldn't take anything unless it's given specifically to you... from a doctor.

Given your age condoms are probably the best option. Hormonal birth control is best if you're having sex regularly. My gf went thru several brands before she got it right. There can be side effects and I'm not sure what effect it has on development at your age.
What just happened?
