Effectiveness of my birth control? - June 7th 2011, 09:36 PM

You're supposed to take the pill every day at the same time. I'm good about taking it every day... but the same time, well, I fail at that. I always take it at night right before I go to bed, but I go to bed at different times. Sometimes I take it around 9:30-10:00, sometimes I take it as late as 11:30 to midnight. I know I'm not supposed to do it but whenever I try to get a set schedule, something gets in the way. I know, excuses excuses. I'm too busy in the morning to remember- I forget even important school work. There's no way I could remember to take a pill at the same time every morning when I'm in a rush for school.

do you think it's still effective? there's usually only a 1-2 hour difference between the times I take it each night. Sometimes I do take it the same time for quite a few days in a row, then I just slip up. Why does it matter? I mean, the hormones are still released into your body every night... I don't understand it. I'm thinking of getting the patch or the shot instead... both my current partner and I are clean of STDs so I dont need to worry about that.

It depends on the type of pill you're taking. If you're taking a combination pill, it gives you a 12 hour leeway period to take the pill and for it to be still considered effective. When taking the mini pill you have to be more careful because it has a 3 hour time frame instead of 12 hours. You should try and take it at the same time every day but one or two hours isn't that bad.

I had trouble with it too. What I do now is set my alarm on my phone for 6am, take my pill, and go back to sleep. I've been perfect for over a week now (just switched back onto the pill).

I've found the one who completes me.
This love is like nothing I've ever felt before. <3

Hey there,
Regardless of going to bed at different times at night, you should set an alarm for a time to take it, and put a little reminder to go with it, that way you won't forget.
