Period Pains. - June 8th 2011, 09:50 AM

So, I get really bad period pains, like every time I get my period. My period lasts about 3-5 days, and I usually get stomach cramps for the first two days then it usually stops. I also get really bad headaches and I'm really tired. I'm on Levlan ED at the moment, and my doctor said that it should help with it, but it hasn't really had much of an effective on it. I used to take normal panadol and then naprogesic, but they didn't really help either.

Sometimes the pain gets so bad that I can't even move. I just have to lay in bed the whole day because the bad is just excruciating. I have warm baths and lay hot water bottles across my stomach to ease the pain. But, does anyone know some other way I can stop the pain?

Thanks x

Heya Mia,

I too suffer from teriible pains and have tried nearly everything to help them, so maybe some of those things might be useful to you.
One thing i've learnt (mostly from my school nurse), is that if you lay down with your knees up to your chest, the pain can ease. It actually really works for me, takes a few minutes but it gets less intense.
Instead of hot water bottles, I use special bags or teddies that you can put in the microwave and then place on your stomach. I think they work better, last longer, plus they usually come with a lavender smell which makes you feel relaxed!
Ibuprofen tablets can help too, it might be worth looking in to and see if they're for you.

Good luck, it's not nice to have this much pain every month!

Hey Mia,
Period pains can be a pain in the ass, but I know you've only been on the contraceptive pill for a month. You've got to give it time to get used to your body, and hopefully it will begin helping the pain.
As mentioned above, Ibuprofin or Midol really works wonders. Or try using Excedrin. I use this for my migraines I get quite often, and it worked within the first half hour of taking it. Also, warm rags really do work and last longer. Place one on your stomach and your head when you get a headache.

Hi Mia

I sometimes get really bad period pains too. I'm on the pill, and as Shannon said, you need to give it a bit of time to kick in, bear with it, but hopefully it will help.

What I find also really helps is you can buy heat wraps for your stomach that stick onto your underwear. They are called Cura-Heat Period Pain, they do the same job as a hot water basically. You should be able to get these in most pharamacies, or if not, you can probably order them online as well.

Hey there,

Period pains are a pain in the ass! I know it seems like the last thing you want to do, but exercise is a brilliant cure for period pains, maybe go for a walk or jog. Also ibroprofen helps quite a bit.

Walking really does help.

But I also know what it's like to have them to the point where you can't move. The first three or so months that I had my period I would lay in bed and literally not be able to move because of how bad it hurt to. Like the said, pain meds help, a lot.

Most of the time when they were that bad I'd just lay still with a heating pad and take some midol.

Hey there,

I know this has had some pretty good answers already, but I just wanted to link you to a thread on the site that is dedicated to helping us women ease the pain of nature every month. http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f16-g...-period-pains/ I hope something works for you there!

Take care,
Hollie.
