Well... This is awkward... - September 7th 2011, 08:05 PM

I hate posting personal questions on here. >.> It's weird. But I could do with some opinions.

Basically, I started my period when I was about 13 or so and it was never at the same time every month. But I'd read about it and figured it'd just take a while to get into a rhythm.
But I'm 18 (getting close to 19 ) now and it's still at a different time every month. It can be as much as 4 or 5 days before/after the date it was the month before. It's really frustrating because I can't keep track, the only warning I get is a really uncomfortable cramp and by then it's usually a bit late.
I've never had any other issues before concerning... that..
But it is annoying, is there anything you think I could do that might help to make it more regular?

I thought about going on the pill but I'm not sure just yet. I'd feel really awkward talking to my doctor about that.

Well, the pill is the only thing I can really think of to help regulate it. Also, some people don't regulate until their early 20s.

It shouldn't be awkward to talk to your doctor about. Let them know your period is irregular and you want to go on the pill. They have heard and seen weirder things, I'm certain!

Perhaps getting on a sleep and eating schedule would help regulate you, as any change can cause irregular periods.

The pill is the only thing that will help regulate it.

You shouldn't feel nervous talking to your doctor. They get questions/concerns about this sort of thing all the time, and you shouldn't feel worried about talking to them about those questions or concerns you have. There isn't anything to be ashamed of, all us girl's go through it...even your doctor (if of course, she's a woman!).

Take a look at the different type of birth control pills that's offered and then make a list of ones you want more information about. Currently, I'm on Reclipsen, and it's the best birth control pill I've ever used.

The pill would totally help regulate it.
It's really not that bad to talk to the doctor about it.
I've been at my same doctor since I was like 7.. And I had to ask him for it, but all he said was "alright this one should work." wrote the prescription and it was done!
It could definitely help fix the weirdness. (:

Don't feel bad, I started mine at 11 and it wasn't regular until last year! and I used to skip months all the time. I didn't do anything about it and it eventually did regulate on it's own. The pill would do the trick. I was personally against doing that for personal reasons, but it's something to consider.

I felt weird bringing it up with my doctor too, but when I skipped 3 months in a row (and I'm not sexually active) I couldn't ignore it anymore. She was surprised I had never been to a gynocologist and told me to go. A week after that my period magically fixed itself and I never went (I know, I'm non-compliant)

hey nat dont worry about it
mine are irregular, all i know is that they happen at the end of the month, but my days change all the time. if it really bothers you the pill is the best way to go, i had to go on it a while ago and it really calmed down my period and made it very regular also remember that your diet and eating habits can affect it

Like everyone else said the pill would regulate it, there are many different pills to choose from you should talk to your doctor about what they think would be right for you. I personally don't believe in taking birth control for myself (though it doesn't really matter because I can't have kids) but I had to get on the pill for medical reasons.
And you doctor deals with these things all the time so try to feel so weird about, all women have to make the decision of whether they want to take the pill or not.

The pill completelyyyyy regulates it. Seriously. I used to be a fully regular 28-day cycle girl, I could calculate my next period to the day. Now I can calculate it to within a couple of HOURS. No joke.

Try not to feel too awkward to bring it up with your doctor, remember they've seen and heard EVERYTHING awkward before. And you'll better about it afterwards. (:

Thanks, everyone. I'll definitely try to bring this up with my doctor next time I see her!
