Dollar store condoms WILL work just the same as the expensive ones. You just need to check the box for expiration dates, and make sure that the package has no puncture holes. Lots of idiot workers and idiots people like to puncture the boxes so the condoms end up being faulty before you even get to use them. So, beware. This happens at ANY retail store, not just dollar stores.

Make sure your boyfriend knows how to properly put on a condom as they aren't effective unless they are used correctly. Also keep in mind that even though you are using protection, there is ALWAYS a chance of pregnancy and STI's.

You know, I wish so many adults and the Self Righteous could read this. Thanks for the reminder that the Pill or the availability of condoms don't cause sexual behavior, puberty does.

Anyways, I don't know what kind of condoms are available in the Dollar store, but very often they get to the Dollar Store thru what's called 'Buy outs'. That's when large companies that specialize in liquidations of stores or companies buy the inventory of stores or businesses that are no more. So, although the names might be familiar or the testing and expiration dates OK, you simply don't know where or how the merchandise has been or handled and stored, which is important with condoms, which are heat sensitive.

So, for some things the Dollar Store is fine, but maybe not condoms. Spend the extra money, don't take chances.

Choice of condom brand depends on preference. I, personally, have had problems with reeeally cheap ones because they are often not lubricated, and I prefer more lubrication. One brand my boyfriends and I tried was also very constricting on him, and was not comfortable. But as for protection, they offer the same an expensive one would. So try them, and figure out what works for you.

I actually have another idea for you. Go to a local clinic, many of them give free condoms. My college gives free condoms at the health and wellness clinic. If you live in a college town, you may just be able to walk in and take some, no questions ask. But do your research, and you may not have to pay for them at all. And often because these ones come from grants, they are from larger companies such as Trojan or LifeStyles anyway.

Good luck! Message me if you ever have questions or need some help.

Yeah, Trojans aren't that great to start out with. They break easily, they're not sensitive enough, and I even hate the packaging. Overrated much? Just try a bunch of different kinds to see what works best for you! Maybe you'll find dollar store ones are better...

Hey there,
I'm glad that you were able to get condoms for free. I was going to say that clinics DO give condoms out for free. I would go there before a dollar store, because clinics are going to give you condoms that are reliable and not expired. Dollar stores often time sell things that are expired, but are still 'safe' or can be used. So, just be really careful when going to the dollar store that you don't accidentally get expired ones. And always check for damaged packaging and what not. Dollar stores also sell things that are in a damaged box or package that a bigger store wouldn't be able to sell just for that reason.

Also, I want to recommend you to Planned Parenthood. I would check to see if there is one around your area. You can go there and get birth control, and they wouldn't be able to tell your parents. I don't suggest lying to your dad, but if it keeps you safe, then it might be necessary. They can give you birth control for free, or at a low price. They charge you cased of of a sliding fee scale. They will ask you a various amount of questions, and that will determine the cost. Not to mention they give out free condoms, no questions asked.

Hope this helped!
