Shaving... -
September 17th 2011, 04:34 PM
Okay, this is embarrassing but..
![]() I have hair down there and it just makes me feel really, really gross. My mother told me about shaving my armpits and legs when I started growing hair, but never down there, so I've never shaved down there because..I dunno, I figured I wasn't allowed to. But a person having hair anywhere but the head is disgusting to me, even on guys (no offense if you like it/have it), so I want to shave my hair off. But I heard that it's better to like wax it or something, but obviously our house doesn't have wax handy. Is it actually okay to shave down there, and is there a certain direction to shave? I think I tried once and I got major razor burn, so... Sorry if that sounds dumb or something, I just find this awkward to ask about but...

Waxing usually does have better results, but for those who want convenience and less pain, shaving is a decent substitute. Here's a guide to shaving pubic hair, and another one.
So basically: Soak in the tub or the shower for a little bit using hot/warm water so your pores open up and lather on the shaving cream. Shave in the direction of the hair growth. (I find that it doesn't give me a totally smooth shave so I go upwards and sideways a few times. ) Whatever you do, just make sure to be careful- nicks are not fun. Afterwards, moisturize the area as to prevent irritation. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! |

A bit of advice: You may want to wait a bit before you start removing hair 'down there', because once you've started, you usually have to carry on, as it can grown back thicker and wiryer and can be uncomfortable. Obviously this isn't the same for all people.
To shave, use a good quality razor, and make sure you put some sort of shaving foam type thing on, preferably something without perfume in it. Someone recommend non perfumed conditioner to me, and it worked. Also, always shave in the direction the hairs grow in. I don't know about the other methods, but I do know that shaving doesn't usually give the smooth finish most women are after, so it might be worth waiting until you have access to another method. |

Also, some people get a pair of grooming scissors (only used for this and nothing else, and you need to clean it each time you use it), to get the excess hair. Then you shave. It saves the razor a bit of work.
So you have gray hair and you're only 26
that's just another reason I love you... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Everyone pretty said everything I wanted to say, but keep in mind that the first few times you try, it may cause irritation to the skin and might be itchy. Of course, this isn't the same for everyone as Melody said, moisturize to stop that from happening, but it may be itchy or irritated since your new to shaving.
There isn't anything wrong with having hair down there, but I understand why you find it gross (I'm the same way). Just shave in the direction the hair is growing, for a smoother shave, go upwards a few times. But, shaving in the direction of hair growth will help. |

I've never had any issues shaving in the opposite direction that the hair is growing lol.
And if you have the patience and the pain tolerance for it, tweezing lasts WAYYY longer than shaving. For example, when I shave, I get itchy about 2 days later. If I tweeze, the hair doesn't come back for a week. ![]() I've found the one who completes me. This love is like nothing I've ever felt before. <3 |

I could never wax. Ever. I'm a wussy when it comes to pain.. and I can assure you- waxing would be painful.
I generally shave. The best way to do it is with shaving cream and a new razor. Always shave the direction the hair grows. However, my skin is sensitive to razors.. so without fail, I always get razor burn. Though I doubt that'd be the case for you. Good luck

I would recommend trimming first and then shaving... Also deodorant makes it so it itches less and you dont get razor burn... I have a second stick that I put on down there for a few days after I shave

Do NOT use deodorant on your lady parts. It's highly likely that you could get a yeast infection from using deodorant on your lady parts. Yes, I did look it up! It's not safe to use deodorant that is meant for use on your underarms on your vagina. There are specific deodorants that are meant to be used down there.
