Period Cramps and medicines -
October 1st 2011, 12:16 PM
I have really horrible cramps during periods and they go away only by taking a medicine. Sometimes I have to take 2-3 in one period. And the other day one of my friends mentioned that taking medicine for period cramps will make it difficult to conceive in future and gave me an example of her aunt.
Is it true? I take Tab Meftal Spas. Spread "Jaadu ki Jhhappis" - The Magic Hugs![]() Buddy - 28th January 2012 HelpLINK Mentor - 20th March 2012 Why Me? When I did a general Google search of your question, nothing came up about not being able to conceive because you took pain medication during your period. Your friend isn't a doctor, nor can she give you detailed information on this BECAUSE she's not a doctor. And, on top of that, neither are we. So, even though I might have found nothing, doesn't mean it's necessarily isn't true. This question would be best brought up to a doctor/nurse.

I haven't heard of simple over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen causing infertility. I haven't heard of Tab Meftal Spas either, but that's likely due to the regional differences. It really depends on what you're putting into your body, but I would like to pose this question: Why would pain relievers cause harm to your fertility only when taken while you're menstruating?
You may want to look at the ingredients listed on the medicine and do your own research. If anything comes up iffy, there's no harm in asking your doctor. There are some herbal remedies that aren't good taken in large doses (not necessarily affecting your fertility) so it's always best to be aware of what you are putting into your body. Painful periods suck. |

Lots of people take pain medications while they are on their period and I'm fairly certain it won't cause you to become infertile. However, I am no doctor

I think if Ibprophen etc. caused infertility we would know by now and there would be a lot of people having problems conceiving! There's nothing wrong with taking pain medicine for your cramps as long as you follow the dosing instructions and don't accidentally take too much.
