Yet another pill thread. -
October 17th 2011, 05:47 PM
I've always had really irregular periods that can be up to a week or two in difference. (like month one it's the 2nd, month two it's anytime between the 16th and 24th)
I finally got the courage to talk to a doctor about it, though I refused to make eye contact with her the whole time. She suggested I go on the pill to regulate it but says she wants me to get a blood test first, just to make sure there's nothing else going on. Thing is, I'm completely terrified of needles and refuse to get a blood test. But I can't handle living with the constant uncertainty about when my next period will be. So if I went to a different doctor and just asked straight out to go on it, would they let me or do you think they'd say the same thing? I'm not trying to trick the system or anything, I just can't deal with needles.

Personally I’d get the blood-work done it might come up with something that you were unaware of. I get blood taken every month and it’s not a big deal at all. There’s a reason behind testing your blood it gives them a very accurate idea of were you stand medically. Skipping a step or cheating the system is probably not in your best interest. Once you get it done you’ll walk away thinking “I was worried for nothing”.
Anyways I hope everything works out for you.

I agree with Ryan!
You should get the blood work done. Needles suck, I know. But, you're going to have your blood taken in life, no matter how much you hate it. Especially if it's essential for you. Get the blood work done to make sure there isn't anything else going on. It's better than having unexpected periods. |

You really should get the blood test done. I was always really irregular, along with other symtpoms, and after some blood work, my doctor found I had a rare genetic disorder which made my hormone levels extremely sporadic. Because of that, they put me on a specific pill, as others wouldn't have helped. I know this isn't what normally happens, but just in case, you really should get the blood work done. If you explain your fear of needles, they'll probably do as much as possible to make you as comfortable as possible. You are not the only person who has a fear of needles, so I think they'll be able to help you through it.
