Down there... (girls please!) - December 13th 2011, 07:14 PM

Okay so not entirely sure where this should go.

So I've been with someone for about a month now who I really like and I knew he wanted to get sexual with me after a few dates. I don't know if it's trust issues I have or am just insecure about my body but I told him to go slow which he has done and I feel a lot more comfortable around him now. And I feel like he cares, bonus

Right so I'm a newbie to all this sort of thing. Never done anything remotely sexual unless I was drunk. I want him to change me. I've never shaved down there before, only ever trimmed but I know he'd like it if I got rid of it all! And I think I'm up for giving it a go. He's actually made me feel ready to experiment, however scary I might think it seems in my head. He's fingered me and 'licked me out' not sure what a nicer term for that is! And I enjoyed it, I've never trusted anyone like this before him.

So the advice I'm after! Never having shaved down there before, how do I go about it? I've only got an electric razor so not sure how that'd pan out. Also worried if I successfully got rid of all the hair it would be sore and itchy. I've got a full time job I can't hide from people!

Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks ahead

I'm not a girl but here's some helpful things to keep in mind: skin in the pubic region is very sensitive so make sure you've tested whatever shaving cream you are going to use on yourself first. Try not to shave dry (shaving dry often causes razor burn). Trim first, then shave. Shave in the direction the hair is going, otherwise you'll pull at your skin, leaving larger pores than normal.

Razor Burn happens when bacteria (usually found in sweat) enters open pores, so it's important to be gentle cause razor burn sucks. If you do get it though, just apply a hot compress to the area for 5 minutes (it reduces the swelling) and try to pick up some hydrocortisone (sp?) or Witch Hazel at rite-aid, they are salves used for skin irritation.

Hope this helped

Ryan pretty much said everything but to add..

Since you haven't shaved before I doubt you'll get too many problems the first time you do. If you shave one day and then the following day it will irritate the skin and that's when things become painful and rashy. After shaving wear loose underwear/pants.

Ryan pretty much hit everything on the head. Using an electric razor probably won't be best. I'd buy a cheap razor or buy an expensive one for this purpose only. Trim before shaving, and then shave and make sure you shave in the direction the hair is growing.

Additional tips: make sure to keep the shaving cream on the skin while going, hold the skin taught so you don't get nicked, don't put any creams on the area afterwards- it causes irritation. Hope that helps

It isn't sore unless you get nicked or go against the direction of growth, and it will itch if you let it grow out some afterwards. It'll take some time to get used to the new feeling as well.

I'd also like to add that you should shave maybe twice a week. It helps prevent razor burn the more you get used to it.

If you have never shaved your pubic area, I would advise starting with an electric razor to get a lot of the excess hair off, or else scissors (though those won't be as accurate). Otherwise (assuming you have a decent amount of hair), you will have to go through a couple if not more razors, and it is really annoying.

You'll then need a regular razor to shave the rest off. Be sure you use a shaving cream compatible with your skin. It's okay to take your time. Be sure to rinse the razor often. And shave the way the hair grows, i.e. towards your legs instead of towards your torso (meaning start at the top of the pubic region and work your way down). Hold the skin taught so you don't get nicked, and be very gentle. I find it helpful to sit down whilst doing it, at least part of the time, so as to better remove all the hair.
