In my state it's illegal to sext if you're under the age of 18. I didn't do it until I turned 18 and I'm still very reluctant but that's only because I hate my body. Other than that, I find no problem with sexting as long as it's by an adult and kept between those two people & no one else.

Re: Sexting: Should it be legal? - December 17th 2011, 02:32 PM

Sexting also includes sexually explicit conversations through texting. And, I should've been more specific on number 4. I mean't to say, do you think there should be consequences by law enforcement for the minors that sext?

I honestly think that sending sexually explicit texts (Not multimedia) aren't really that bad. But, the pictures... I'm against it. I think that can mess you up worse than a sexually explicit conversation. And, it's 10x better than actually going out, having sex, getting pregnant and what not, also breaking the 'Age of Consent' while they are at it. Let teenagers be teenagers. If they understand the consequences from their peers if something gets out and the consequences from their parents, it's their buisness. The law needs to mind it's own buisness, and let parents decide their punishment instead of jail time? I just think that they could being doing something way worse than this. And, law enforcement could be spending time making schools safer, and more strict. In my opinion, bullying is more harmful than sexting. And, noone barely ever gets in trouble for that. (In some states, bullying is illegal and has consequences. [Sometimes VERY SMALL consequences] don't get me wrong.) Our world is just getting more and more screwed up by the second. Good luck next generation.. next, breathing is gonna be illegal but exhaling is going to be okay. -___- haha makes no sense, right? Neither do these ignorant people who come up with these shit laws. haha

Re: Sexting: Should it be legal? - December 17th 2011, 02:45 PM

1. Have you done it before?: No

2. Do you think it's wrong?: As long as both parties are an appropriate age, then I think that's their decision to make.

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: I think it's a good way for someone to ease their sexual desire, without actually engaging in sex. However, I think there is an age where even this is too much. It could harm their self confidence (I've heard many stories about girls feeling bad about themselves afterwards), and could potentially put them in a bad situation, if their revealed any personal information.

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?: Legally, I don't think so.

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?: If the parent finds out, then they are the parent, and therefore they can punish their child as they see fit.

1. Have you done it before?: No/Yes? Yes

2. Do you think it's wrong?: No/Yes? No

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: No/Yes? Starting at 15

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?: No/Yes? Depends again.

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?: No/Yes? Depends, if someone is sending naked pictures and people are finding out about it then yes, or if kids are starting to meet up with these people in person (which would be potentially dangerous) then yes. But if it's staying in text and neither of the above are evident leave them alone. It's having a parent punish you for masturbating...sexting is a good way to relieve sexual tension without physically having sex.

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: No/Yes? I don't think anyone should, but if they do, there should be a limit.

I've sent explicit messages, but not pictures. I think that pictures should have more serious consequences.

1. Have you done it before?
I've received but never sent.

2. Do you think it's wrong?
I think if people want to sext, it is their own business.

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?
Yes, because I don't think 14 year old's should go around sexting each other. However, I am a little on the fence with this question.

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?
I don't think so, as I said before its their business and they should be allowed to send whatever they want.

5. Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?

Yes, because it really depends on the situation. Law charges people for even receiving photos, even if they didn't ask for them. I don't find that very fair.

Re: Sexting: Should it be legal? - December 19th 2011, 08:34 AM

I don't think it should be illegal. I think it's really dumb though. Even if you're in a trusting, committed relationship with someone you consider loyal and honest, you never know when that's going to change. People don't think about what these things do in the long term. You're not just looking at a vengeful ex showing their friends, but your own family members, your future partners, your employers and future employers. If you're willing to risk that, fine, but you should at least know what you're risking.

I think as a whole we're all pretty ignorant about how what we put out there will affect us in the long run. I wish someone would have sat me down and told me that when I was a kid discovering the internet. Not that I have naked photos or anything floating around out there- but there are definitely some embarrassing blog posts and things I put on sites like Myspace and Bebo which I wish would vanish.

As for the whole underage thing, I don't really consider that sexting since it already is illegal, being child porn. I don't think it's really fair for dumb kids to get charged with child pornography for sending photos of themselves to their boyfriends and girlfriends but maybe it's better for them in the long run. I guess we just need to stress that point more. We tend to focus on the stuff like 'it might come back to haunt you' and 'you can't trust your boyfriend/girlfriend to keep it private' but I'm sure that garners a collective eye roll from tweens and teens everywhere. I think stressing the point that HEY STUPID, YOU COULD GET SLUGGED WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES is probably a better way of getting them to stop.

In light of the clarification on point 4, I'm going to change my answer to "Depends on the circumstances". If it involves someone over the age of majority and a minor and it's not within the ambit of "Juliet laws", then I think it should because that's getting into the realms of grooming or child exploitation/pornography as Marguerite points out. In other situations it's best for parents to intervene first and for the law to be involved only if the above is likely to occur, but in any event I still believe it's a pretty foolhardy thing to do given that once it leaves your phone, it's out of your control.

1. No.

2. No.

3. Not unless it is between a minor/adult.

4. No.

5. Yes, we should obviously punish children for engaging in a safe form of sex completely free of STD's and Pregnancy scares! That's just wrong./sarcasm

I personally don't find it attractive, or amusing in any way but I don't see a problem with it.

Yes! Because there are no potential problems when it comes to children sending naked photos of themselves to people. That's completely risk free. /sarcasm.

Satanism is not a white light religion; it is a religion of the flesh, the mundane, the carnal - all of which are ruled by Satan, the personification of the Left Hand Path.

Done it before? Text, not pictures.
Is it wrong? No.
Should there be an age limit? Same as legal age of consent.
Should there be consequences for minors? Well there'd be no point in having an age limit if there weren't punishments for those doing it illegally? :') Maybe different consequences for pictures than text, because pictures could be constituted as child pornography.
Should the parents decide the punisment? No, I think it should be set in law, like a set penalty.

2. Do you think it's wrong?: No/Yes? No

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: No/Yes? No, I think a limit wouldn't do much

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?: No/Yes? No, but same laws as sex (with the being real under/real over age thing)

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?: No/Yes? No

Have you ever done it before? Yes, quite a lot, actually.

Do you think it's wrong? Since I answered "yes" to the first question, I'd have to say my answer to this one is "no."

Do you think there should be an age limit? Yes, I do, simply for the reasons that sending pictures of teenagers in such a manner is child pornography. I wouldn't mind text as much, but you can't really separate pictures from text, since it's all part of "sexting." Punish one, you have to punish the other. The law can't be picky about which one gets what in this case because it sends the wrong message. It says "Hey, you can't send pictures, but here is a loophole for you that defeats the spirit of this law entirely."

Do you think there should be consequences for minors that do sext? Yes, I think there should be.

Depending on your answer to the last question, should parents decide whether they be punished or not? No, I don't. I think that should be up to the law, since it's a law that sets the age limit. This isn't anything you can leave to parents to discipline as primary disciplinarians, since that's basically not taking responsibility for upholding the own laws we set.

1. Have you done it before? Yes

2. Do you think it's wrong? No

3. Do you think there should be an age limit? Yes (Isn't there already with child pornography laws though?)

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext? Wait I think there is, because you can get caught for child porn...

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not? Yes

1. Have you done it before?: No

2. Do you think it's wrong?: No

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: Yes. I think that once you're within the age of consent in your country, then it's your call.

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?: I'll go with yes.

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?: Hm, both? Legally, there should be a set penalty if there is one. But if the parents want to provide their own punishment as well, again, that's their call.

1. Have you done it before?: Yes.

2. Do you think it's wrong?: Not really.

3. Do you think there should be an age limit?: Yes.

4. Should there be consequences for minors that do sext?: Nope.

5. (Depending on your answer to the last question.) Should the parents decide whether they should be punished or not?: Nope.

I think if all you're sending is naughty messages then it's just some harmless fun, you're saying something, they're replying, what is the harm in that? If there is pictures involved then I think the person sending them should be of age and know that consequences of what they're doing but other than that, I think it should be legal.

Yes ive dont it before. No i don't really think its wrong. No i don't think there should be an age limit unless it's adviced by a parent and or guardian and i don't believe there should be consequences for minors. And if the parental figure has said "do not do it" and the child chooses to then it is the parental figure's job to punish within normal limits such as grounding.
