Plan B questions - December 18th 2011, 05:23 AM

Thursday night, my boyfriend and I had an erm....accident, I guess you should say. We are sexually active, and don't use condoms (please DO NOT preach to me about this). I am on birth control, however, and take it as directed. We use the 'pull out' method as our 'extra' form of birth control (AGAIN, do not preach to me about this!). After having this accident, I agreed to have him take me to get Plan B from the courthouse, where my gynecologist is located. However, they were closed and we were forced to go to Wal-Green's and he bought me the Next Choice emergency contraceptive. It's like the generic brand of the Plan B Two Tablet emergency contraceptive.

Once in the car, I took the first pill (this was roughly about 8 hours after everything happened), and I was directed to take the second pill 12 hours later. Which I did. The thing is I'm due for my period any day now. I stopped taking the active pills of my birth control on Wednesday since I was due for my off-week. It's making me nervous because I know too well that if you take the emergency contraceptive it can mess up your cycle, and my cycle is usually VERY regular...it was even before I began taking birth control. Usually, I get my period 2-3 days after stopping the active pills, and it's not Sunday, and it's making me nervous that I haven't gotten my period yet. Is it because I took the emergency contraceptive around the time I was supposed to get my period? I know we're not doctors (Obviously!), but I was wondering if any one else has experienced this before after taking the emergency contraceptive. I'm worried that I may be pregnant from a previous sexual experience I had with my boyfriend, though I haven't been experiencing any kind of symptoms yet. I can't afford to take a pregnancy test right now, though I'm going to take to a friend if she'd buy me one in case my period doesn't come by Wednesday, when I'm meant to begin my new pack of birth control.

I'm just nervous and scared, and if I had it my way, I wouldn't have taken the pill. But, my boyfriend insisted, and I did it anyway! I just don't know what to do.

It was definitely likely the Plan B. Also, they are now suggesting you take both pills at once as it is more effective and doesn't seem to effect you as much then.

I took Plan B one week before my period and it skipped it. Then I got my period the next month. So, yes, it can happen. Hopefully it will just come late.

Hi Shannon, I'm not a female (obviously), but my sister did take the Emergency pill and her period came almost 1 1/2 weeks later. But obviously we do all want to be sure of whats going on so taking the Pregnacy test is the best option (besides asking your Doctor about how the pill and period react to on another).

I hope everything works out.

Best wishes,
Chris

Also, since it was the first time taking Plan B, I wanted to do what the directions said, hence why I took the pills 12 hours apart. I've been feeling some slight cramping, so I'm hoping it's due to my period and not the pill.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed at this point. If my period doesn't come by Wednesday, when I start the next pack of pills, I'll take a test just to be on the safer side.

Thanks guys!

I know the package says that, which it doesn't really do any harm. The package said that when I got mine but the lady at Planned Parenthood told me to take them both, then I did research and found out it's supposedly helps it be more effective. So, either or.

Good luck, Shannon! Try not to worry.

I figured that's what you meant, but I wanted to be sure there wasn't some new test I wasn't aware about

Thanks Kelly & Chris!

Re: Plan B questions - December 19th 2011, 03:51 AM

I bet this is just the Plan B. My friend took Plan B, and her period actually never came during that month. We were very worried, she took a pregnancy test and it was negative, then her period came very randomly the next month. It really messes up your cycle. I very doubt you'd be pregnant, I don't know what kind of accident this was, but if you're normally good about taking your pills, then you should be fine, there are many girls who have frequent unprotected sex and don't get pregnant, if somehow this one specific time you end up getting pregnant...well, it'd be miraculous to say the least, but it would be unlikely. I bet you're fine.

Re: Plan B questions - December 20th 2011, 04:06 AM

Just a little update: I've gotten my period...I think. I began spotting some blood today around dinner time. -enter breath of relief here-. I'm keeping an eye on it, and hoping it turns into a full period soon. If not, that's okay. At least I know the pill didn't mess up with my system TOO bad.
