Insertion with Spermicidal Lube and without a condom - January 6th 2012, 08:01 AM

Hi everyone, I just wanted to get people's opinions on a little debate i'm having with myself. Me and my boyfriend have been having sex for 1 1/2 years now starting off with birth control + condoms, then i stopped BC for about 6 months now bc it was making me kind of sick. My boyfriend and I have been talking about sex without a condom for a while now because we are both curious about what it would feel like without a condom, but the idea seemed a little out of control for me. I suggested getting spermicidal lube and just letting him enter me but not having full sex b/c from what I have been taught and read on other threads, the pull-out method seems to be a game of russian roulette.

So I guess my question is, is it a ok idea to just try insertion with spermicidal lube just to feel the difference, or is that even too much of a risk?

(also, we were both virgins when we met so I'm not concerned about STI's at all)

My own experience with spermicide was that she developed a sensitivity to it and we had to stop using it. That doesn't mean you'll have the same experience. Take a look at these sites for more, accurate, information:

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/hea...icide-4225.htm

and

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/hea...ethod-4218.htm

Withdrawal is a bit unsatisfying for obvious reasons, but it doesn't mean you can't use either method when you want.

I've never used a spermicidal lube, only because I've been on birth control for several years. However, that decision is entirely up to you. Yes, the pull-out method is basically a game of Russian roulette, as you'd be taking a lot of chances, but you need to make this decision with your boyfriend.

If he just inserts his penis inside, I don't think you'd be putting yourself at risk for anything unless he has sperm on his penis, or in the urethra. So, if you DO decide to do this, make sure you have him urinate before hand to make sure all excess sperm gets washed away.

And, be careful with spermicidal lubes. I've heard some people are sensitive, as Stephen said, and could even have an allergy to it.

Shannon's right. Withdrawal isn't that bad if you're careful and he's disciplined. That's the hard part. He has to withdraw before he reaches the point where ejaculation is inevitable. A lot of guys wait till that point and accidents happen. Also it's just too easy to get caught up in the moment and think about how romantic it would be to have a child with the person you love. He has to just enjoy it for a while and finish off another way.

I used to use spermicide with my ex & had no problem with it. However, we also used condoms. It's up to you, just make sure you discuss the risks.

I'd just like to add that you can always get a different brand of birth control. That brand may have made you sick, but another brand won't. Different brands are for different people.

Condoms are by far the most reliable method of contraception, but if you use the spermicide carefully, then it should be fairly effective. You would, of course, have to discuss all the possible risks before having sex with your partner and come to a mutual decision.
There are other forms of birth control as well, such as the IUD. More information on different types of birth control can be found here. There's bound to be some method to suit you
