Question STI ? - February 2nd 2012, 10:31 PM

This is really hard to talk about.

Tonight, as I was washing myself, I felt some bumps near my vaginal opening. Oddly enough, I had my partner look and take a pic (which he then deleted once I saw). Right before the opening, there were 2 red bumps (just red, bumps, no white part and no puss, just red bumps) and then directly across from them, 2 more.

They were itching a lot, so that's why I started to feel around. I've had the 'flu' the past three days...

Thing is...this sounds like herpes to me. And the thing I cannot understand, is that usually the flu-like symptoms come with the FIRST outbreak. First outbreak occurs 2-3 weeks after you've been exposed.

My boyfriend is loyal. We have had sex without a condom several times in two years. If he were are carrier, wouldn't I have been infected before?

And lastly, I'm terrified. So, please. Help. Could it just be irritation? I might mention I have a hemorrhoid for like almost 3 years that just won't go away. And I can't afford to have it surgically removed...so I just keep it very clean. :/

So, irritation spreading from that maybe?

Get tested. Planned Parenthood often offers free testing. It sounds weird that you wouldn't have had the outbreak earlier, however, sometimes these things can go unnoticed. However, like pregnancy, I don't think that STIs are automatically spread when you have sex. It could be spread, meaning, maybe that certain bacteria just had never carried to you until this particular time of intercourse. The hermmorid thing sounds suspicious too, I'm not sure that kind of infection spreads, but it doesn't sound completely out of the question that it would.

Another thing is that your boyfriend could have had oral herpes (which is seen as a simple cold sore), which honestly is very easily spreadable, and maybe something such as oral sex may have infected you. I'm not completely sure, being not a professional, why it wouldn't have spread earlier. Honestly, I would just get tested now and not later. It is free in many planned parenthood clinics, and often in local ones as well. My local testing center does specials where every other Wednesday or something they are free; maybe yours does something like that as well.

It' not herpes unless the bumps break open into little ulcers with a white center and hurt more. There are probably a lot of things that can cause bumps so if they don't go away by themselves I think you should see a doc. There may be free clinics in your area, so look around.

What just happened?

Thanks guys. I'm much more calm now.

We've agreed it's likely just due to irritation but I am calling PP tomorrow and going to go in to get tested and checked out. Thanks!

Re: STI ? - February 3rd 2012, 12:18 PM

I would definitely get tested since it could be a STI, but I would also consider other possibilities of yeast infections or Urinary Tract Infections. About 75% of all women will have a yeast infection at least once in their lifetime. It may not even be sex related. To be sure, check with a doctor. This seems like the most common answer with something like this. A doctor can identify these infections by taking a swab and looking at it in a microscope. Since most of us can not do this at home, but sometimes you can tell by the feel, look, and smell that you have a yeast infection or something related.

I've had bumps before that turned out to be nothing but it's still better go and get them checked, just to make sure and clear your mind of any worry!

I'm going to PP on Monday. Since yesterday, there is only one bump left and it no longer itches. Very likely it was just irritation but if it turns out to be anything more then I'll let you know.

Thanks guys Just so freaky to find something like that! lol

Figured I'd let you know it was nothing. Apparently they were scratches that were healing
