The "tube thingy" is called a tampon. Personally, I prefer them. Pads are good too, but in my opinion they're uncomfortable; I feel like I'm walking around wearing a wet diaper.

If you choose tampons, use the absorbency that best suits your flow. If you bleed heavy, you may want to use a super absorbency instead of regular or light. Remember that they need to be changed about every 4 hours or so.

I wouldn't recommend only using pantyliners; most people I know use tampons and put in a pantyliner just in case some blood leaks out. Pantyliners are thin, unlike pads. They're mostly also used at the end of your cycle when the blood flow gets lighter.

hi, I would personally recommend the pad or panty-liner as its more comfortable and easy to manage, All you do with a pad all you do is sick the sticky side to your pantys and then pull your pantys up sounds easy i know it can be overwhelming, sorry if i wasnt much help but hope i was a little, sara x

Re: Which ones?? - April 5th 2012, 01:00 AM

I'd say for your first few times, I'd recommend pads/panty-liners. I used them at first because I could never seem to get a tampon in (if you do use one, get a plastic applicator instead of cardboard) because my mum only bought "Super Plus", or the really thick ones, and I didn't really know my own anatomy that well. Pads can be a bit uncomfortable at first, just make sure you're positioning them right so that you don't accidentally leak, and change them frequently.

I also forgot to add - Since this is your first time using a tampon (I'm assuming), you might want to read through the little booklet that comes in the box of tampons. If you change your tampons regularly, you chances are low, but you should be aware of the signs of Toxic Shock Syndrome just in case. And it will probably be weird the first few times, I know it certainly was for me, but now when I use tampons, I can't even tell they're there. Just keep practicing, and do what makes you most comfortable.

Again, we can't go into explicit details, however, putting a pad in your panties isn't difficult. You just remove the paper from the back of the pad, and then put the pad in your underwear...sticky side down. As far as tampons, read the directions that comes in the package.

I've never been helped. A period is a very private, messy thing for a girl to go through. Especially in the beginning. I just read the directions, watched instruction videos I could find at the internet at the time, and figured it out on my own. Trust me, it's not that hard.

Re: Using a tampon or pad or panty liner - April 5th 2012, 03:06 AM

Don't worry you aren't alone when it is troubling to put in a tampon or pad
Advice for a pad:
-pads aren't hard at all to put on. You just peel of the backing off and stick it in your underwear
Advice on tampons:
-RELAX
-Don't stress your muscles out down there otherwise it will make it worse
-I like to put my foot upon the toilet seat but if you don't like that then sit on the toilet and spread your legs then and if you don't like that, then maybe lay down on the ground
-Don't think about it if it starts to hurt, that is normal because your body isn't use to something going into your cervix
-But if it starts to really hurt then take it out and try again, it's OK
-Now, slowly push the applicator in and aim down towards your lower back. If you stick it straight up there, you will most likely hit your cervix wall and that will hurt. (when you start to do this, maybe take two fingers and spread open your vagina)
- Go slowly, don't rush it in when it is your first time
-Also, lubricant is a life saver because lube makes the applicator slippery and it feels better to put it in
-maybe put some lube on your vag lips too so it will help the situation
-if this fails, ask your mom, she won't care, she will probably be happy to help, don't feel weird about it
-if this fails too then ask your mom to schedule an appointment to the gynecologist. Don't feel weird when the gyno asks to take a look down there. She has probably seen a thousand of them and she won't care. She will do anything to help you. I promise!
I wish you good luck

Re: Help to put a tampon on - April 5th 2012, 03:14 AM

For tampons, I use tampax pearl. Try to go with the size that's the medium size, which is called "regular" for a regular flow until you get used to wearing them. For pads, I use Secret Thin with no wings. I use the thin ones because I've had my period for 10 years, so the flow isn't as heavy as yours will be. My period is also regulated through birth control, so I know when my period is going to come. You won't know when yours does.

For panty liners, which I wear with tampons (just in case my tampon leaks before I can change it), I use Secret ones.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy UNSCENTED tampons, pads and panty liners. The scented ones are not good for you. And, tampons, unlike pads, NEED to be changed every 4-6 hours. Pads should be changed every 5-6 hours, for sanitary purposes of course.

ALSO, DO NOT sleep with tampons at night. Always wear a pad. There is a little something called Toxic Shock Syndrome, which can happen if you leave a tampon in too long, and it's not healthy to wear a tampon more than 6 hours.
