Leagal stuff (UK) - April 8th 2012, 04:21 PM

Hey.

Because of whats been going on I'd just like to get to know what would happen if I am pregnant.

I'm 13 and from the UK. If I am pregnant would I be able to keep the baby? Would they tell me I need my mums consent?

All my searches I did on the internet to answer your questions didn't really give me any answers. Of course, I'm not from the UK, so I'm not sure what the exacts laws are, but I think it all pretty much remains the same. A woman's body is her own, and therefore, she can do what she wants with it (within reason, of course). If you decide to keep your baby, that decision alone remains with you. Of course, HAVING your mother for support would help, but nobody can force you to do anything you don't want to do.

Beth, you lost your virginity just yesterday, as I learned from another post. You're worried about being pregnant, you're worried about aches and pains, and now, you're worried about this. I think the overall message you're giving yourself is that you're not really ready for a sexual relationship, and you shouldn't continue this. As you see, there are unanticipated emotional consequences to this which you are unprepared for.

Stop worrying about all this by recognizing the larger message you're giving yourself here and you'll likely feel much better.

PM me with the link of the post you'd like me to respond to.

Well, I'm not sure about the UK, but I'm in Canada (A commonwealth alliance, mind you.) and here it's illegal to have sex under 16 as you cannot consent to it propperly so you might be in legal trouble if you get pregnant. Also worth noting: You're only 13 and the chances of you sucessfully delivering a healthy baby without posing risk to yourself or child are very low. More over no 13 year old is equipped to handle a baby, psychologically, physically or monetary wise.

As Dr. Bobby already stated, some 13 year olds are mature enough for a sexual relationship, but it seems you aren't quite ready for this yet.

It's technically illegal, but nobody will get into legal trouble unless you decide to prosecute on grounds of rape or assult. Your mother will have to find out if you're pregnant as you're not old enough to live on your own, but nobody will try to take away your child unless it's being grossly abused or neglected. Do you currently live with your parents?
