Found out wife is pregnant - January 24th 2009, 10:16 PM

Today my wife came to me and said that we shall be having a baby soon. I'm so exicted but yet scared at the same time. I'm scared cause I don't know how to be a good father. As my father well. Wasn't a very good one and I'll leave it at that. Money should not be a issue as far as I'm aware of. But I'm still scared shitless that I'll fail at being a father.

Re: Found out wife is pregnant - January 24th 2009, 10:23 PM

Everyone is scared, but you have quite some time to think of the kind of father you want to be. And believe me, once you see that face, you'll know what to do, and I'm sure you have a lot of help around you. Just think of the kind of father you had, think about what you didn't like about him, and decide what kind of things you will do in the situations you had with him. My best advice, write down your ideals and morals you want to instill in your child, and also write down your bad habits/things you don't want to instill in your child. You can improve yourself, and know where you stand. The baby isn't going to just pop out right now! You have lots of time to figure things out. Read some books to make yourself feel better. And remember, one thing you do will not screw the kid up, you have a whole life time to shape with this child, so you have a lot of time to make their life the best you can. I know you can do it, good luck, and congratulations!

Awe! Congratulations.
It's completely normal that you're scared. In time, I think it will get better, though. Just be there for your wife and your baby whenever it's born. Do your best to make sure that your family is provided for and loved. Those are the most important things. I'm sure everything will be just fine. But, anyway, congratulations! You're going to be a daddy. :]

Congratulations on the soon to be edition to your family!

I'm sure it's completely scary but it's also exciting! I'm sure everyone is scared when they find out that they are having a baby. As for being a good father, you will learn as you go. It takes practice. Just love your baby and support their dreams. Do what you think is right. Keep your baby safe and love them.

Congratulations! its normal to be scared, don't worry. Its a massive thing and its good your nervous because that means you understand what a big thing this is and it won't suddenly hit you one day. Be prepared, thats all I can say. The more books you read, people you talk to etc the less shock you will have when the baby is here. And don't worry, you will naturally love and protect this baby. My boyfriend panicked when I got pregnant and to be honest i had my worried about him being a dad as he was very immature and selfish. I have to say though he's the best dad ever, it has just totally changed him. Good luck, feel free to pm me anytime to ask anything x x

don't worry about it! all dads are worried when their wifes get pregnant. with most guys, they say that dads get married, have a child, and fall in love in that order. just treat your child in a loving and caring way, things will work out!

Aww! Congratulations!

You will be fine. It's normal to be scared. I'm sure you will be a great father to your child. Just because your dad wasn't great, doesn't mean you won't be.

Re: Found out wife is pregnant - January 26th 2009, 01:36 AM

My husband had the same fears as you!
His real father was never in the picture and the man his mom has been with well... he's a twit.

I'm pretty sure my husband still has those same fears... I don't think they'll ever fully go away...

The best thing you can do is let your wife know about your fears, and tell her you need her support.. I'm constantly reassuring my husband that he's a wonderful father to our son, and that our son is very lucky to have him as his Daddy.
I'm sure your wife will do the same, you just have to let her in and let her know when those fears creep into your head.

congrats on the little fetus bean.

I think every parent fears they won't be "good enough" or teach their children "right." Love your child, and that will guide you. Seriously. You could be a single parent with barely enough money to get by, and your absolute, unconditional love for your child, combine with the desire to do right, will help so much.

That's not to say there won't be moments, but I'm sure you'll be such a wonderful daddy. :] Congratulations!!

Someday I will be strong enough to lift not one but both of us.

Even just saying that you don't want to be like him is making you a better father. Just believe you are different and your kid will love you.
