5 month update - March 30th 2010, 09:37 PM

Joseph is 5 months old today! The weather outside is 75 degress F. Very nice day today. Lil Man is taking a nap right now, and I am hoping I get the energy and motivation to take him out for a walk in just a bit. Feeling rather nauseous today.

Well, Joseph's last weigh in was a week ago and he was 15lbs 9oz. We had to take him to the ER because he was sick. They diagnosed him with larangitis and upper respiratory infection. We had a REALLY long week that week. But thankfully all he has now is a bit of a cough and a runny nose. Nothing terrible, so that is great!

Otherwise, he has been a healthy, happy baby. Of course, I am starting to worry as I feel like he is not going to develop normally for some reason. I have no idea why, because he is doing great so far. But perhaps it is just me worrying about nothing ....

So, I am going to ask you ladies some questions about your little one's milestones!!

* What age did they roll over?
* What age did they crawl?
* What age did they sit up?
* What age did they say their first word?
* What age did they walk?

I am afraid that I do not do enough with him. Like tummy time, we hardly EVER do it. He does not enjoy it really at all, and he always ends up spitting up because it is too much pressure on his stomach I guess? He can lift his head up and his arms and straightens them out and such ... but he doesn't enjoy this at all ...

He is still really needy, and doesn't like to be independent at all hardly. I feel like I am dibilitating him because I don't let him cry a little to see if he calms down ... I just tend to pick him up and play with him. And then he wants EVEN more attention ... IDK. Maybe I am thinking and worrying too much..

Pictures .. sorry they are so big!!

Awe, he's a cutie! I love the last one where he's got those big, surprised looking eyes. So cute!

Anyway, my son started to really be able to sit up on his own around 5 months... Started to roll over from belly to back maybe a week before he could sit up on his own. As for all the others, I couldn't say... My little guy hasn't done any of those things yet.

But just be patient. I'm sure he'll learn how to do all of those things at his own perfect little pace!

Hey there,

I just wanted to say that it's great to hear that Joseph is doing well. I do not have any children of my own, so I am unable to answer your questions. However, this site has a lot of great information about when you should expect milestones to occur. Keep in mind that every child is different, so don't sweat it if Joseph is a bit ahead of or behind schedule.

Take care!

Aww he's so handsome!

Don't sweat it too much about the milestones... he is developing, and that's the important part. If he's a little behind, he'll catch up. If he didn't seem to be developing at all is when you should be worried.

My son also very strongly dislikes tummy time. We do some everyday, but IMO not quite enough. My son didn't turn over until going on five months (and he's still only done it a hand full of times because he doesn't want to be on his tummy), he still doesn't sit up without support (and I think he still has some time before he will too), and he can't quite get all the way up on his arms yet. He's just now figuring out that he can scoot himself. Personally I think being a big baby might have something to do with it, because my son weighs 20 lbs, and has always weighed a lot.

And you're not alone with your completely dependent on you baby My son never leaves my side... ever. He naps on me, he refuses to play on his mat by himself (only if I play with him), I can't leave him alone in his jumperoo anymore which used to be the only time I could get a few minutes to do something else. I feel bad because I never get anything done, and I'm home all day. But taking care of my son is my full time job lol.

Re: 5 month update - March 31st 2010, 08:07 PM

You're doing fine.
Not ALL babies like tummy time. My son HATED it. So I didn't force him to do it. (Yes I'm one of those mothers that doesn't force her kid to do something)

as for the questions

*What age did they roll over? about 3 1/2 months old he started to roll.. had it down by 4 months
* What age did they crawl?
He started to crawl around by 7 months i believe.. id have to check his chart to know for sure but it was around there
* What age did they sit up?
4/5 months
* What age did they say their first word? first REAL word? around a year lol
* What age did they walk?
He started to walk around 9/10 months.

My son was also very very clingy and needy but we also have no family we can just leave him with for a few hours. So he was and still is with me constantly. Though he is more independent now.

Joseph is adorable!!!

Babies reach milestones differently, but don't be concerned. Most kids catch up to their peers by age 1-2. He'll get there soon!

I really does just happen out of nowhere haha Its been a few weeks since my son first rolled over. Then he didn't do it basically at all until a few days ago... now he rolls from one side of the room to the other haha. I'm happy for you though! It makes you feel all gooey inside when they get something for the first time
