Question Should I be worried? - December 19th 2010, 03:55 PM

So I've been dating my boyfriend for 3 years, and we recently decided to be intimate with eachother. I'm not on any birth control, but we always use a condom and use it correctly. The last time we had sex was about a week ago. We did everything we normally do; he didn't ejaculate inside me, and the condom didn't break. I was due to start my period friday, and when it didn't start my boyfriend became really worried that I was pregnant. I told him it was normal for a girl, for me anyways, to start a few days late. I started my period yesterday, but it's only spotting and barely any at that. I read a lot of articles online this morning, and most of them said that stress can cause a girl to be late. So I'm not sure what to think. All of the articles I read were undecided and said precum had and didn't have sperm. That's the only possible way I can think of that I could have become pregnant. Some articles said sperm die when exposed to oxygen, and can live 3-5 days in a woman's body. I also looked up information about ovulation, and most websites said a girl ovulates between 12 and 16 days into her cycle. If that's true then the egg died before my boyfriend and I had sex. Could I still be pregnant?

Sorry it's long, but I'm becoming more and more worried about this. Thanks in advance for any help!

In addition, there is a history of thyroid problems in my family. I had a few symptoms a while back, but nothing serious enough to get it checked at the doctor.

I honestly think the chances of you being pregnant are pretty slim. I know the first few times I had sex with my boyfriend, I was so paranoid that I was pregnant, the stressed just caused my period to come even LATER! It's so annoying, but I think it happens to pretty much everyone. I think the best thing you can do right now is just wait it out, and remember that the chances are too slim to worry about. The spotting may just be your cycle being stupid, and you'll get back on track soon, or even next month. Sometimes girls just flat out skip periods, the joys of ever changing menstruation!

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm trying not to worry so much, but it's harder than it sounds. I hope it doesn't take until next month to become regular again..

I don't think you're pregnant if you're sure he used the condom correctly. Spotting usually occurs 3-4 days post your menstrual cycle. Sometimes, it's scary if you just started getting intimate. Trust me, you aren't the only one to deal with the pregnancy scare the first time of intimacy. If a period hasn't come within the next week or two of your regular cycle, then you probably should contact a doctor for further instruction. However, it's probably not even likely to happen. If you both frequently get nervous by intercourse, perhaps you both aren't ready or you both simply need to get more comfortable with protected sex. Good luck!

Hey there,

I think for now you should try not to worry about the what ifs and try to focus on the hear and now. I know that is easier said than done but if you focus to intently on what might be it will only cause you more stress that you don't need.

In the future I suggest you look into birth control, if that is an option, it might prevent things like this from happening and it might ease your mind a bit more.

I really hope this helped and if you need anything feel free to pm me.

Jenna

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

I seriously doubt your pregnant. But maybe take a pregnancy test, just so you dont have to worry about it? Good luck!=)

I really doubt that you're pregnant. There are at least 100 reasons other than pregnancy that would cause a girl to have a late period. It sounds to me like it's not very likely that you're pregnant, though.
