advice appreciated. - February 1st 2010, 01:29 PM

I'm FTM. I still live at home with my parents. I'm not out to them yet. I'm in my freshman year of college right now at the local community college. I'll be transferring out at the end of this year to go somewhere else (aka move away). I don't know when or how I should come out to them. I want to start therapy and testosterone as soon as possible, but I don't know; it would obviously be apparent that something is going on if I started T while still living at home, but I probably wouldn't start it by the time I moved away (although, I would like to). Normally, I wouldn't mind waiting and not telling them until I move away.

My only dilemma is that when I move away, I want to present as male at my new college from the get go. T would help with this, obviously. I don't know. I just don't know how to come out to them. I don't want an awkward conversation. I don't care about telling my friends, it's just my parents and family. I'm completely sure in what I want. My hesitation in telling them has nothing to do with uncertainty. I just want to do this thing. And I want to start soon so I'm mostly settled and in a routine by the time I move away.

There is a whole summer in between school years, why don't you use that time. And about your parents......there is no way to avoid the fact that it is awkward, sometimes the best way to do something is to just do it. Quick, simple, blunt. If you think you're parents need to be told slowly though, thats your call. Good luck.
