Being tactful is very important. What would happen if you told them, and they kicked you out - do you have a plan as to how you would survive? This is a very real possibility, I know several people who did have this happen to them.
Sometimes, it may be better to just wait until you are financially independent. At that point, their opinion would just be their opinion - their disapproval could not have any measurable threat on your welfare. To be safer, you can also consider relocating to another city, preferably one that has a reputation for being more diverse or liberal. In the meantime, are there any queer and/or trans support groups in your area? Meeting other people who are in a similar situation can be very helpful - unable to be out and/or express one's gender identity - and trust me, there are a lot. Hang in there, it gets better.

You need to come right out and tell them. It sounds like it will be hard. I know I had a friend named Christina, and she shortened her name to "Kris" and now is in the process of getting her name officially changed, since she is now identifying herself as a boy. His parents did not accept him either, so he finally came out to them when he was away at college, where they didn't have a lot of influence over his life. Something that helped him a lot was talking to different people from the LGBT community, who understood what he was going through and could identify with his struggle. Hope this helps!!
