So lost.... - November 16th 2011, 05:06 PM

So, I'm 17 and I am a gay male. I want to date and be happy, but there's a few issues. The first being my mom. She has no idea that I'm gay, and she is always talking about gays and how wrong it is that society accepts them and how it is against the bible (she's a die hard christian). I'm afraid that if I come out to her she will completely freak. She already has enough to deal with when it comes to me, between all of my mental issues and what not. My dad isn't around, and its just me and my mom. I don't know what to do. The second issue is that I live in a neighborhood that is notorious for people being beat up and hurt for being gay, and where the word fag is used in almost every sentence by teens around here. I'm lost, and I don't know what to do. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance,

-Turtle.

Damn, that is messed up. First off, do NOT tell your mom. I know how those die hard Christians are; my boyfriend's parents are like that. Which is why he's deep in the closet.

As to meeting other gay guys, well, that's the tricky part. Wikipedia says that Palm Springs is about 33% gay. So they are out there, you just have to look for the "signs" that someone is gay.

Thanks for your response. You're right, Palm Springs, which is about 3 cities away, is very accepting of it. Unfortunately, my city isn't. I'm just gonna have to hang around there I guess. Again, thanks.

If you're worried for your safety (which in your town, it sounds like you would be), then DON'T tell people. I know how much it sucks to be in the closet, but just hang in there. If people are going to bully you and maybe even physically hurt you, it's not worth telling them. It's not really their business anyways. I'm really sorry your mom isn't accepting... That must be terrible. I'm always here if you want to talk.
