Terrified Of Relationships -

In the past few months I've had several guys ask me out on dates and chatting me up. On every occassion I somehow managed to bat them away. I'm terrified of relationships.
It feels like that I have to love a guy immediately to go on a date with them, and while the guys are nice, I see them a friends, nothing else and I don't want to ruin friendships. I don't want to be a heartbreaker. I initially blamed my head injury but the fact is I'm scared of falling in love and losing friends as I've lost a lot over the last few months. I don't know how to deal with it. I can quite easily give advice on relationships, I'm great at reading human behaviour. My best mates are with their current boyfriends because I helped them! I would like to date a guy but I feel pressured. I feel safer in the realms of science and books and I don't feel comfortable when they call me 'sexy' and 'hot'. It feels creepy. I'm sorry for not making much sense. If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. RoverGirl  |

I understand that a lot. I used to be the same way for a while when I was younger. But I think you'll grow out of it.
You mentioned losing friends as you have before. I get that too. Would you risk a good friendship for a good relationship? It's scary I know, but taking risks is the only way to find out if there is anything to really be scared of. I know losing people is hard, but life goes on, and you must go on with it. Don't let past relationships make you shy away from possibly having someone amazing come into your life. You can't let your fear blind you, because if you do then you could let the love of your life pass you by and you may never get a chance like that but once. What I'm good at is understanding animal behaviour.
Apparently not mine. By the way, if I see a cute guy at uni and I know he's single, would asking him out promptly on my terms help get rid of my fear? |

Well, that's where the 'taking a risk' thing comes into play. Just be up for anything, and things will go well. (Unless the guy's a creep, then you'd need to get outta there.) But for the most part, just stay positive about it and see what happens.
