Exclamation Should I go back to him? - January 22nd 2010, 05:34 PM

I'm seriously trippin right now. I think I want to date my ex boyfriend again but IDK. The reason why we broke up is because he isn't doing anything with his life. He doesn't have his license, a job, or any hopes of going to college. He works for my dad but he doesn't get paid to do it. I really do like him and I like being around him but he's not accomplishing anything. I'm still in high school but I'm graduating in May. He has been out of school for 4 years... Should I consider going back to him or should I leave it alone and wait till college to find someone else?

Well this isn't really a question that strangers can make for you. You have to ask yourself why you like him and why you want to go back to him. He does sound a bit of a loser if I'm honest, and I wouldn't. But I'm not you. You have to weigh it up. Personally, I think you'll find someone better then him in college.

What are you looking for in a boyfriend? Someone to have fun with? Someone who's also attending college/working toward a future career? Depending on what your priorities are at the moment, it may or may not be worth getting back together with your ex. He sounds like the kind of guy that you'd enjoy hanging out with, but couldn't have a long-term relationship with, when you know that he's doing so little with his life.

You know I honestly don't know wut I want right now... I would like a long term relationship with someone who makes me happy. I don't want to have to worry that our goals will tear us apart. I mean I'm only attending community college but after that I'm getting my teaching degree. That's wut I see myself doing in ten years, but I don't see him doing anything to that degree, ya know? He wants to become a pastor under my father but he hasn't made any steps towards doing so.

It sounds like you enjoy hanging out with him, so why not just leave it at that - for now.

Just be good friends and see where it goes.
Don't let past feelings pull you in too much and don't be blinded by love. Just think about whats best for you and take your time. You might find its better to have him as a friend, then he can do what he wants with his life and you can do what you want with yours. you can both respect each others decicions and decide after a couple of months if you want to get back together.

I am tired of this world, it's people. I'm tired of being caught in the tangle of their lives. They claim their labours are to build a better world, yet that world is populated by horrors. Prehaps this world can't be saved. Prehaps nothing can be. But it's too late. Always has been, always will be. Too late.

The best thing you could do for yourself is just stay friends with him, for now. Sometimes things are just better off at the friendship level.

Remind yourself why you broke up with him in the first place. If that hasn't changed, then it won't be any different than before you broke up. Plus college will definitely open you up to all kinds of new opportunities and people, so you'll have the chance to meet someone else as well.
