Would you date someone younger? - August 17th 2010, 10:22 PM

Basically the title says it all. Would you go out with someone who is younger than you? If so, how much younger? I am mostly curious what all you ladies think because as far as I can tell, people don't think it's strange for lads to go out with someone a bit younger but if I girl goes out with someone a bit younger people think it is a bit strange.

I would.. But because I'm thirteen.. I think it stops at about 11. They have to be in at least 5th grade and i would do it.l And i hate that double standard

No, I wouldn't. I prefer guys that are much older than me because he would be more mature, and maturity is very important to me.
I just don't see myself with someone younger, now or in the future.

Been there and done that. Don't plan on doing it again. I was 15 and my boyfriend at the time was 13 (nearly 14) He was just immature, sure I wasn't exactly mature back then either but more than he was.

Never say never I guess but that was a learning experience for me.

Sure why not my first boyfriend was one year younger than me and we never had any problems with the age I've never really had any bad experiences with that.

I dated a younger guy and for a while it went quite well.. then I'm assuming that he got comfortable with me and showed me his true colors. I was 17 and he was 14 or 15.. anyhoo. I believe it was a mistake and therefore, I am never doing it again. xD He might have been more mature than most boys his age, but he just wasn't mature enough for me.

i think that i would;
but not too much younger than i am.
i would only go for 2-3 years younger.
of course, i wouldnt go for him if he was really immature.
but if he was mature... then i would.

i agree; i do find it strange though if the woman is older...
it just always seems like the guy should be older..
like how people think that the guy should ask the girl out
& all of that...

I think it would depend on maturity but probably yes. I don't think age matters if you love someone. But I think it would also depend on how much younger and how old I was - there's a huge difference between 19 and 15, but no so much between, say, 23 and 27.

i dont think that it really matters;
as someone said above... age is just a number.
& it really doesnt matter... just as long as you love them.

so if you like your boyfriend;
and would like to continue to date him...
then i would just get over the fact about the age difference.
but if the age difference really matters to you,
then i think that you should talk to him about it.

It isn't that I am going to break up with him over it I was just curious to see what other people think about that and in general dating younger guys because where I live people seem to think it's very strange so I wanted more opinions

I'm 21... so I suppose I could see myself dating someone who was 20. MAYBE 19. But any younger than that would be weird for me. xD We'd be at totally different stages in our lives. I'd be a senior in college, getting ready to apply for graduate schools... and he'd be a cute little freshman. =P I'd be preparing for a career, and he'd still be getting the hang of "adulthood".

The older you are, the less significant an age difference is between two partners. For example, I probably wouldn't have a problem dating someone in their mid-20's when I'm 30, because the assumption is that we'd both be financially stable, secure in our careers, and possess similar levels of maturity.

I definitely wouldn't. I feel more mature than most people my own age sometimes, and guys my current age drive me crazy as it is.
So anyone younger than them would be even more annoying.

Nope Nope Nopey Nope. First of all I'm just attracted to older looking guys. And second, it just weirds me out. As it is I was a year older than everyone in my class because of taking a gap year before college. This year because of a transfer I'm going to be 3 years older than the people in my class. And the thought of dating any of those guys is just weird to me. I don't like it and I won't do it. Besides for selfish reasons I want my husband to hit 40 and 65 first, so I can observe.

Not now. If I was, say, 25, then maybe. But only by a year or 2.
I've had crushes on guys a year younger before and they're just too immature. Guys my age are too immature for me.
My boyfriend is a year older and quite mature for his age.
Also, when I was 16 I dated someone 4 years older. The age gap had nothing to do with why we broke up.
Basically, maturity is important to me

I would.

Of course, as I age, guys that are younger than me are slowly becoming more mature as well.

One of my best friends in high school was 2 years younger than me and I there was a time I was a heartbeat away from dating him. At the time, I probably wouldn't have gone more than 2.

I'm 23 and out of college so I think they'd at least need to be in college (and be mature enough) for me to date them. No more than 4 years younger probably though.

I would as long as the relationship goes well Although I prefer older and mature guys or guys around the same age, 2-3 years will be okay later on. My grandparents and aunt and uncle are 7 years apart and my parents are three years apart. They've been together for a long time and are still in love, so why not go out with someone younger than you are? (grandparents 50 years, not sure about aunt and uncle, parents 16 years)

I'm rather curious why the majority of answers are a straight up "no", rather than "it depends". Obviously a lot of guys are immature. But some are extremely mature for their age. And some girls are incredibly immature for their age too. Even if you're mature for your age, it's still a possibility you might meet a younger guy who is very mature, nice and has a compatible personality. But it's automatically a no-go?

What happened to being humble, or open to any possibility anyway? Automatically assuming yourself to be superior to the entire male population within your age group isn't exactly mature.

Well like I said in my post my reason is a little vain. I just don't want to be the older person in the relationship. It's like how girls tend to date guys that aren't as attractive as them so they can be the pretty one in the relationship.

I am twenty. I am also rather old for my twenty years. To date anyone younger than me not only fails to match my maturity level, but it tries my patience.

I voted no.
I have dated younger and I just find them to be just to clingy really or too immature for me. At least the ones I have dated. One of them turned out to be a bit stalkerish. There is nothing wrong with it. I just prefer older guys. They just seem to be more my thing and I relate to them better.

The youngest I have dated was two and half years younger than me the youngest but closest to my age was six months and that probably was one of the better ones. We still are great friends.

I typically like guys that are older than me, but I don't think I'd have a problem with going for someone younger. They would have to be mature for their age though, and have a plan for their life. They would need to be respectful and mature.

I've only dated one person that was younger than me, and it didn't last very long, so I'd probably say someone older. I'm one of the youngest people in my grade anyways so it works out

Re: Would you date someone younger? - August 24th 2010, 05:50 AM

I'm seventeen. I've been involved with guys that are a couple years younger than me and a couple of years old. I'll probably be seeing more older guys once I turn 18 and I'm legal. Anyway, as a woman I'd much rather date someone older. Even the same age is a bit of a challenge.

For the longest time, I've been involved with guys who are older. They don't have curfews, they are either in school or working (usually both), etc. I'd frequently get asked to come hang out at 1AM and they'd get mad when I couldn't because that's way past my curfew, of course.

Now, I'm "talking to" someone the same age as me. He's in a grade behind me (he got held back when he was younger) and it's... different. His parents don't let him out nearly as much as the guys I'm used to. However, that's partly due to a situation in which someone he knows shot at him. (The court hearing for that is soon, after the guy is put in jail his parents will probably let him out a lot more.)

But it's just weird because he goes to bed so much earlier than those guys, he's not out at 1 in the morning either.

I love both younger and older guys but the youngest I would date is a year younger. The guy I dated was quite mature and smart for his age. But generally I prefer older guys.

Re: Would you date someone younger? - August 24th 2010, 11:28 AM

My gf, my ex gf and my ex bf are all younger. Well my ex gf was effectively the same age, just younger by two weeks I just like to pick on her. My ex bf was a year and 3 months younger and my current gf is about a year and 6 or 7 months I think? But Im in my early 20s.... so I suppose its different from being say 16, dating a 14 year old. But I cant remember any significant crush where its been on someone older than me.... usually its within a year younger.... but I mean, particularly after your teens, an age range of 1 year above or below is going to be completely normal, and the range gets broader.

But I'd also like to add, out of most of my friends' parents, moms seem to be typically the older ones, and dads younger.

I'd date someone younger as long as they're mature enough, and can make me laugh. I think people nowadays put way too much emphasize on age. It's cliche to say, but age really doesn't matter all that much.

You know how to love me hard.

I won't lie I'm falling hard.
Yup, I'm fallin' for ya, but there's nothing wrong with that.

As a guy, I would be reluctant to date anyone much younger than me as well. Over the same maturity issue. I mean, if they were very mature for their age, then maybe. But it's more about maturity than age. I know people significantly older than me who aren't mature enough for me to consider dating. :P And I know a few people who are younger than me who are mature enough. Some people just... Grow up faster than others.

All my x-partners are older, my current boyfriend is 9 months younger than me. I'm 19 and he's 18, we're the same age for 2 months come October, then i turn 20 *sob*

It was a big deal at first, but he's very mature. Age differences are very apparent when you're in school where dating someone from the year below (which he is), is like "whaaat?"
All age gaps get far manageable as you get older and especially once both parties are over the age of consent.

So here i am, alive at last
..and i'll savour every moment of this.

I prefer older guys but younger guys aren't out of the question. I'd only go a year or two younger at a stretch

Generally no, but it would depend on thier maturity level. Also no more than 2 years.

Isnt the legal thing with dating someone 3 years younger? At least thats what it is around here. Anyways back to your post, I dont see anything wrong with it unless your like 18 and the guys like 12 or 13 lol. Good luck!

{Yes.I am confused about my life. And not everything makes a lot of sense right now. But I know that I love you and that you make everything alright,and thats all that matters to me <3 }
