Do you believe in fate? -
March 1st 2011, 07:24 AM
Hey guys, I've been very curious as to if you guys think that a person will ultimately end up or date the girls/guys that suit them.
I'm asking this because at the beginning of the year, I was unhappy with two of my classes. All I had to do was switch them with each other in order to end up with my friends. Well.. It turns out, the girl I have a HUGE crush on was in one of the classes I dropped out of and possibly the other one too. So... I guess I missed my last opportunity to approach her without sounding creepy (I don't cross paths with her AT ALL) seeing as I'm 3 months to graduating high school... Anyways, what do you guys think? Do you think in the long run, there's going to be a time where we'll cross paths? Carpe Diem: Seize the Day/Moment.

this is a toughy,
in one sense i do believe in fate, in the other i don't, my best suggestion is to really try to find this lovely young lady and try to make something out if it, ps. the same thing has happened to me now i kinda regret not trying to go after her ![]() Your waiting for the perfect moment. Sure, I believe in determinism. But not the romanticized "it's fate because i want it tooooo happennnnn" type of fate that you are talking about. There is a logical path in the universe, but's it's not some storybook book path that humans would hope for.

I believe in coincidences.
I think beyond that you have to make things happen for yourself. If you want it bad enough you'll find a way to cross paths were her again ![]() If not, then I guess you could say "it wasn't meant to be" lol. Good luck. When reality is a prison, your mind can set you free. |

I believe that the universe, fate, God(s), whatever you want to call it sometimes put people together at the right place at the right time. But that's as close to fate as it gets. The rest is up to us.

I don't really believe in fate I guess, I have more of a 'if you want it to work you need to work for it' attitude. You can't really just happen upon someone who's meant to be with you and knows everything about you; it takes more time and determination than that to sustain a relationship these days!

hmm, no, don't think so. i don't like the whole 'theres that one special person out there for you' thing.. na, there are plenty of people you are compatible with out there. if you didn't happen to come across one person who you'd like you'll come across someone else.

Well I'd like to think so. It makes me feel like everything will fall into place and everything will happen for a reason.

I wish I could to be more optimistic, but I don't see it in that perspective. I don't think things happen for a reason. It's all just a coincidence. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. Some people have to look for love, while some people have love put in their lap.

It's funny cause everyone seems to agree here, but on the poll, it's more even than I thought xD

When I meet my gf it was sort of random and I didn't know it would lead to a relationship at the time. One thing led to another and that's just what happened after a while.

No, no, no, no. I suppose when you think about it there IS a person out there who I would be COMPLETELY compatible with but s/he could be in Korea :| the likelihood of me meeting them is extremely slim. Some people are just more compatible than others, you must work in a relationship not say "we're just meant to be together"

I believe everything is mapped out for us. It's already been decided when we're born who we'll marry, what we'll do in life, where we'll go and when and how we'll die.
Don't take life too seriously; no one gets out alive anyway. Reach for the stars so if you fall you land on a cloud ~ Kanye West Mistakes are minimized by experience and experience is maximised by mistakes. |

Don't you find your belief a bit depressing though? :| I mean, if we did have no control over anything then we may as well not even be living at all :/

wow. very interesting viewpoint. can't quite get my head around that. doesn't it make life sort of.. pointless? but i suppose in another way it could make you more laid back and not worry so much.. because what's set is set. hmm.. out of interest are you religious?

As with almost everything in life, I'm going for a middle-ground option.
I do believe in fate, but I believe in it to the extent that I genuinely believe all things happen for a particular reason, and that we are drawn towards certain situations and/or people based on a number of factors. However, it is up to us to decide how we are to respond to those situations and/or people, and what follows from there. Some of that will be determined by who we are and the events in our life at the time, though, so you can probably see how it all becomes one big cycle.
