Birthday present? - January 28th 2012, 05:24 PM

Well, hmm. Let me see how to explain this.

There's this guy I talk to quite often, and though I'm not officially with him yet, he visits me at work (or rather, my volunteering job) every chance he gets and speaks with me every time he sees me and walks around town with me whenever I'm there. We've kissed several times, and we cuddle a lot, and he carries a letter I wrote to him in his pocket every day, besides just talking and flirting and things of that sort. In short, we're pretty close.

He's been rather down lately because one of his best friends isn't allowed to speak with him anymore, and it worries me. His birthday is on Valentine's Day, and I thought that maybe if I got him a small sort of something, it might cheer him up some. I don't really know what to get him. I want it to be more of sentimental value than anything, 'cause he really seems to like that sort of thing. But nothing corny.

I just have no clue what to get.

Any suggestions are appreciated greatly.

What did you find?

I think it's really sweet that you want to do something for him. I can't think of any specific ideas right now, but if your idea doesn't work out and you can't think of a special gift, you could even just get a typical gift along with a more personal letter in a card. He obviously likes it when you write to him if he keeps one of your letters with him all the time. For my boyfriend's last birthday (we were't dating yet at the time, but we had feelings for each other), I couldn't think of something special to get him...so I gave him a card with a long letter in it, a gift card to his favorite store, a wrist band that I remember him saying he wanted, and a bible book mark that had his favorite bible verse written on it. Even though it was simple and practical, it was also personal because of the letter and because of the fact that I paid attention enough to remember things that he liked. So even something like that could work if you don't think of something else.

If you're artistic, you could also draw something for him and frame it.

Well, he's a huge fan of WWII. Anything that has anything to do with it, and he absolutely loves it. And he also collects knives and swords. I was looking at knives on the internet (Amazon, more specifically), and I found this surprisingly inexpensive replica of a replica Nazi naval dress sword with a mother of pearl handle and an eagle's head engraving on the hilt, and eagles wings on the crossguard. It's beautiful, and not extremely large -- just a nine inch blade. I think he'd really like it.

I'll probably write him a letter or something to go with it. I really like that idea, and I figure he'd like it... He rather enjoys taking them out of his pocket and attempting to read them aloud at very impromptu moments to try and embarrass me. It makes him laugh.

Oh that sounds like a perfect gift! I think he'd really like it. Guys like when you pay attention to what they're interested in.

Aw, that sounds like a great gift. It's something he'll like, and it shows you know him. Let us know how it goes.

Nothing in the world is
the way it ought to be.
It's harsh, and cruel.

But that's why there's us - champions.
Doesn't matter where we come from,
what we've done or suffered,
or even if we make a difference.

We live as though the
world is as it should be,
to show it what it can be.

I think he really would, too. He talks about history all the time, especially this period and the USSR. Now I just can't wait to order it and see what it looks like, and give it to him.

EDIT: Sidhe, I'll definitely update you guys. I'm actually pretty excited about it, haha.
