It's a Japanese cartoon series, known commonly as anime, about a girl named Usagi (Serena in the English dub) who meets a talking cat named Luna, who informs her that she's a heroine named Sailor Moon, who must lead a group of other female heroines known as the Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts in the dub) against a villain known as Queen Beryl. Each Sailor takes the name of a planet, and a loosely related element (for example, Sailor Mercury has water and ice based attacks, while Sailor Mars uses fire based attacks). Initially there are only five (Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus), but in later seasons more are added. Also, plots and villains change from season to season, but the general thread is that each season tends to delve a little deeper into the lives, past, present, and future, of the Sailors.
