Re: No self help things work for me?! - July 24th 2016, 01:15 PM

I've had similar issues before. I sometimes wonder if because it's self-help, we put a lot of pressure and expectations on ourselves to get it right, and hope that by doing self-help things we can 'fix' ourselves. But then the pressure makes us feel more anxious, and that's when we find the self-help doesn't work so well. Having a counsellor or therapist help you with breathing exercises, may help more as they can teach you the correct techniques, and reassure you that things are working out as they should be. It removes some of the pressure and anxiety from you.

Also, there are loads of different self-help things out there, and it usually is a matter of trying different things and seeing what works for you and what doesn't.
