I think that makes sense! Everyone self harms for a different reason and I can see there being a sense of comfort in it. I’m glad that you know and enjoy some of the healthier forms of healing too. Try to use those whenever possible. My reasons for self harm are more a distraction or punishment. It didn’t sound like you were looking for advice with this post but feel free to correct me and I’ll come back with a more in depth answer!
