The military can offer you scholarships and other benefits for your education, so if you do decide to go into the military and find something you are interested in, it's still possible to have both. Of course you have to be a part of the military for a certain amount of time, etc, but it's an option you may want to consider.

Otherwise, you may want to see a careers counselor at University and talk to them about what you enjoying doing and what subjects interest you, you're only in your first year so I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to change courses, my brother did so during his first year. I suggest you look into that as another option. There's also a good UK website where one can look at "options with your subject", there are some things that are different to the US but it will give you a good idea.

If you can see a careers counselor at University and find a course that would better suit you, I think it would be the easier thing to do and it would get you where you want to be faster.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and wiser, that in itself, is worth the fight.
