I don't think it's too uncommon - experiences change a person, it's understandable that after someone's been hurt this way, they think differently than others, see things in a different perspective etc. I also think, abuse or assault causes you to grow up faster, in a way, because you've more to cope with than others your age.

I've had trouble relating to friends my age since I was about thirteen - my closest friends are all two or three years older than I am.
