Getting an annual physical/check up is highly recommended. They can check for all sorts of problems. If you are concerned about cholesterol and things like that, your doctor may order blood work. Depending on what you are getting done, you will have anywhere from 1-6 tubes of blood drawn. The phlebotomist drawing your blood should be very nice about it and explain it step by step, and if they don't, ask them to. Cholesterol is a gold top SST tube. They are run on a machine that alerts the lab technicians if the levels are off so they can alert your doctor. Hopefully your levels will be fine though. I hope this helps.
