£64 a week to live in a sh*thole - March 16th 2010, 03:46 PM

I am seriously getting annoyed with living in university halls. Between 11 of us, we have a tiny kitchen (approx 3.5X2 metres). We have 2 small fridges and 1 freezer whichis ridiculous for the amount of peopel using them. We have 2 toilets, 1 shower(which frequently breaks) and 1 bath. Our internet is limited to approx 2 hours of video (not sure how much that is). I have found silverfish in my room. One girl had bedbugs. The kitchen is consistently filthy. I have purchased a TV lisence and a TV aerial and surprise surprise - there's no goddamn signal!!! Is it really too much to ask to even watch TV or have a hot shower every day?
My block isn't even that bad compared to others, which have damp, broken windows etc.
My neighbour had her room broken into last month. Not because she left her room unlocked or because she left the window opne, but because someone kicked a hole into the wall of her room. The wall underneath her window was mdf with a pvc panel over it. what happened to brick walls?
Who on earth could possibly think that it's fair to provide such ridiculous living conditions? No adult would pay to live somewhere like this, but somehow it's okay because I'm a student?
My house that I've sorted out for next year is £54 a week and the price includes a dishwasher, washing maching, tumble dryer, free wifi, landline phone and sky. Why is it so difficult for universities to provide a decent standard of accomodation?

Arghh - sorry for the rant lol just very frustrated haha
