I do think, when you reach a certain level (like grade 4 or 5 music), it becomes a second language - because by that point, the complexity of the music increases, the placement of notes over chord progressions become more intricate and so on. When you start composing on that level then yeah, it becomes another language, just instead of nouns and verbs and grammar rules you have notes, scales, patterns, progressions etc, each with their own set of rules. (My inner music geek is definitely showing here )

I don't think it really makes you more intelligent though.. yeah, there's a correlation between music and math and it helps to develop that part of your brain.. but other than that, not smarter, just.. different.
