When I first got my period, I used Lites by Tampax Pearl, or whatever. Those are the smallest you can get. Even those hurt. It's going to feel really uncomfortable the first time. It took me like 3-4 minutes to actually get it fully in the first time. You just have to take it slow, and try to suck up the pain. Depending on who you are, I guess it differs. For me, it only hurt the first and second time. It gets easier. but these are the tampons I used,
