1. It probably isn't what it seems like. Listen to what the student's trying to say, he may now more about a particular incident than you can figure out by looking at the aftermath.
Everything else would seem a little unimportant... Bar "know what it is you're teaching before you teach it", but I think that should be obvious to all (sadly it isn't...)
