I'm in the republic of Ireland.
3-4 years: Preschool, not mandatory
5-12 years: Primary school (Junior infants, Senior Infants, then 1st to 6th class.
12-15 years: 1st 3 years of secondary school, concluded by the Junior Cert which is like the GCSEs in England. You can legally leave school after this but most don't.
Optional transition year. Mostly projects and work experience
Around 16-18 years: Last two years of secondary school, concluded by the Leaving Cert, which is like A levels in England. Taken in at least 6 subjects.
Then university which is usually 4 years. Extra year for Masters. Extra 4/5 years for PhD.
