My mom told me about puberty before I started my period, and I started my period when I was nine. One day, she just sat me down and explained it all to me. I think I was about eight.  
 
As for sex, it depends on what you mean. They told me when I was quite young that the 'stork' didn't bring me here. And I definitely knew that you couldn't get pregnant by kissing before I was 10. I remember having sexual fantasies by the time I was 11.  
 
Though, I've learned soooo much about sex in the last year, it's completely unreal. My parents told me what sex was when I was about 10; but, they barely told me half of what it is. Oh my. :P 
 
Lol, I remember one time when I was about eight, I was at my aunt's house and an ad popped up on the computer that read, "Free condoms!"  I asked her what they were, but she just said I didn't need to know.
