I've had a look on the Apple website and I guess I only had year warranty because I'm not entitled to "phone support" and have to "pay per incident" if I want them to look into it for me.
Coincidentally I'm currently looking into getting a new phone when my current contract runs out this month, and I've found an alright deal on an iPhone 3GS so if I go with that, it won't matter too much that my iPod battery is a bit... crap.
