Re: Sort of freaking out over my career decision!!! - April 26th 2012, 07:07 AM

I always, ALWAYS tell students to meet people who have the jobs they want someday. If you want to work with children who have disabilities, find companies/agencies that offer services for children with disabilities, then contact a few of their employees and ask if it would be possible to ask a few questions (offer to buy them coffee/lunch to make it worth their time). Find out how they got to their current position - what degree did they earn, what internships/jobs did they have prior to this one, how did they network, etc. You may find that everyone did very similar things, or you may find that everyone took completely different paths to their current jobs. Either way, it's good to know what other people did, because it can help you determine if you're on a good path to obtaining that dream job.
