Well do you see him in person at all? Just pull him aside for a quick second to talk, that won't come across as desperate.
And I'm sorry that you saw that picture, I'm sure that must have hurt  Blocking him for a little while may not be a bad idea so you don't end up seeing other things you may not want to see.
