I wouldn't be to upset your finally getting the kind of cat you have wanted your whole life! Like Breeze said I had a rescue cat and before she got spayed every night I would have 1-3 male cats out front of my house every night making noise non stop.

I can see where your mom is coming from, a cat could have up to 8 kittens in a litter, taking care of new borns is a lot of work and require supervision to make sure they survive, your mom and your family might not have the time and the resources to do such a difficult task.

Just enjoy and love your new cat!
